[li] Other stats: AP TESTS [5 on World History AP, 4 on History of Art AP, 4 on US History AP, 3 on English Language and Composition][/li][/ul]

Subjective:[ul]
[li] Essays: In my opinion, I wrote a really unique personal essay concerning my name and its cultural significance and symbolism–i.e., what it means to me, how it shaped my past, constructs my future. I talked about how I almost changed my name–pressured by western assimilation, and how realized that it would ultimately be erasing a piece of who I am. Another essay, I wrote about my first ride on a Ferris wheel in a run-down parking-lot carnival. I discussed how my views on the world and human-nature changed within that moment of glittering lights and
[/li]

echoing laughter/circus music.
[] Teacher Recs: I had several teacher/community recommendations. One from my History of Art AP teacher, and one from my AP U.S. History. They both discussed my artistic/literary contribution coupled with intellectual discussion vigor. I also got a lot of extracurricular teachers such as my Literary Magazine/Club sponsor and my French teacher to contribute a letter. My employer also wrote one–highlighting my life at home.
[] Counselor Rec: I know my Counselor extensively. She’s one of my personal heros; we have long after-school discussions from time to time. I’ve known her since ninth grade; although, my school has many, many students, I have always made time to talk to her. Her recommendation letter was superb–at least, in my opinion. She really highlighted a lot of my personality and character attributes while mentioning my passions and motivations as well.
[li] Hook (if any): No hook really. I’m not an underrepresented minority race, nor a legacy. I do not have great test scores, just passion, I guess. Passion for the arts and all things related. I’m the first in my family to go to college.[/li][/ul]

General Comments: Got into Brown and realized in February I don’t really want to go to Columbia anyway (for undergrad at least) so I think I"ll take my name off the waiting list.

Woo hoo, I got in!

Really a great feeling, because I love Columbia.

However, I also got in at Brown and at Uconn with full tution and R&B, so I am leaning towards UConn. I think in the long run I will get a better education there.

But it’s a tough decision.

ACCEPTED!!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2250 (800M, 730V, 720W)

[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul][ b]Other Factors:**
General Comments:

Decision: Accepted

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2290 (790M, 720CR, 780W)
[] SAT IIs: Math IIC 760, Chem 750, Bio M 740, US Hist 710
[] GPA: 4.52ishW, 3.98UW
[] Rank: n/a (see below)
[] Other stats: 5’s on four AP’s, 4’s on two
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I think the main essay was great. I personally thought the “Why Columbia?” essay turned out kinda cheesy, but apparently it wasn’t too bad.
[] Teacher Recs: Since I’m homeschooled, I sent in my recs from my community college teachers. One rec was amazing (“this is the most gifted person I know”), and the other one was good but not necessarily solid.
[] Counselor Rec: my mom wrote it, more of a description of my involvement in school/EC’s
[] Hook (if any): Siemens-Westinghouse Semi, did Stanford CCIS internship (my mentor wrote me a strong rec), coordinated summer science clubs for kids, writing a book manuscript, taught a Shakespeare class for homeschoolers
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type: homeschooled (attend CC for math & science)
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[li] Gender: female[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Being homeschooled may have given me an edge, as did pursuing CC classes (I’ll have 78 semester units by graduation)

General Comments: Wow – college admissions is such a crapshoot. I was accepted to Stanford EA, Rice, and Columbia, but I was rejected by Harvard and Yale. I probably won’t attend Columbia (I’ve been planning on Stanford since I got in), and it’s not really a big disappointment that I didn’t get into H & Y. Just funny that one can send the same exact app to schools that have very similar acceptance rates and get wildly disparate results.

Decision: Waitlisted

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2400 Composite
[] SAT IIs: 800 IIc, 800 Physics
