[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: M
[] major strength/weakness: strength: boards, grades, essays, ECs. weakness: uhh I’m well-rounded?
[li] why you think you were accepted: My essay, the extra teacher rec, overall I think I pretty much had the whole package going for me…[/li][/ul]Other Factors: My essay was very risky and I knew it would either make or break me at UChi but I guess it turned out alright in the end. I can’t believe UChi and Swarthmore have Admit weekends at the same time, aaah how will I decide!

Decision: ACCEPTED!

Stats:
SAT:1420 (730v, 690m)
SAT IIs: None taken.
GPA: 87% UW.
Rank: 8/77.

Subjective:
Essays: I thought they were pretty good. Nothing great.
Teacher recs: Generic, but good.
Counselor Rec: Pretty good.
Hook (if any): Lots of extracurricular writing stuff.

Gender: Male.
major strength/weakness: I don’t know. Truly, looking at the people on this board, I have no idea. I’m “averagely-good”.
why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: Demonstrated dogged interest.

I’d also like to thank UPS…“Next Day Air Box” my ass. I got it in Canada the same time people in Malaysia got it. Chicago should consider email.

accepted! . . .
post stats later

Decision: ACCEPTED

Many of you didn’t think I’d get in eh? Thought I was “too MTV” (whatever that may be) and unintellectual?! Well maybe I’m not as intellectual as you are, but I think it just goes to show, you shouldn’t be so derogatory and critical about other people you don’t know. I’m sorry, I just had to say this. You can’t judge a book by its cover.

Stats:[ list]

[li] SAT: 1350 (670v/680m)
[/li]

[li] SAT IIs: 700/650/650
[/li]

[li] GPA: no GPA in international school
[/li]

[li] Rank: no rank in my school
[/li]

[li] Other stats: Doing the IB diploma - predicted around 41-43 points out of 45 points.
[/li]
Subjective:[ list]

[li] Essays: I think this had a lot to do with my acceptance. I was told and I thought that my Mustard essay was superb. And my other 2 essays were excellent too.
[/li]

[li] Teacher Recs: 3 amazing recs from history, english and math teachers.
[/li]

[li] Counselor Rec: Excellent as well.
[/li]

[li] Hook (if any): My art slides and resume. I think also because I didn’t come across as the stereotypical applicant, and I really showed who I was and what my passions were.
[/li]
Location/Person:[ list]

[li] State or Country: Singapore
[/li]

[li] School Type: International school (co-ed)
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: Korean
[/li]

[li] Gender: F
[/li]

[li] major strength/weakness: Strenghts: my Chicago essays, teacher recs, art slides, overall school grades in my HS career. Weaknesses: my SAT scores of anything.
[/li]

[li] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: I think I’d have to say (knowing Chicago admissions), my essays helped me so much. Perhaps my essays got me in, they were awesome. But I think that my art slides and resume also helped A LOT! As for my school grades and teacher recs, even though they are good, I think other applicants probably have that going for them anyway since UoC applicants are a self-selected pool.
[/li]
Other Factors: Umm… that’s about it. Maybe being international helps? Or does it hurt? I dunno.

No silver I think you’d get in. SAT scores aren’t everything and it’s understood. Congrats again!!! Hope you are able to make a right decision on where to go lol

i haven’t heard of the rejects…****…probably they will all come tmr…

Gosh… that is harsh…
So the rejections come a day later or something?

i see! smirk

hey silver :)

i wrote the free topic. it was about my curious propensity for constantly falling down and physically injuring myself at all important events in my life. in retrospect i think it wasn’t deep enough, that’s why i actually thought (after my 4 rejections) that i most certainly would not get into uchicago. but i did and am thrilled…:):):)

u singaporean i see…but i saw u’re korean somewhere…am i right?

and, are u planning to attend? or are u torn? me curious…sorry for the many questions :)
