babumohan’s rejection scares me…

me too, i guess the moral of the story is that they really need to see a “whole person”… and babu said his essays sucked… i hope to god that they sucked more than I think mine did. Oh well, ill find out tomorrow. Im about 65% confident now that Im not getting in.

jpps1 - I’ve seen people with my stats get rejected from U Chicago/other schools in the past, so I have no clue what exactly made them pick me…

texastaximom - no FA in my letter

Aha, I still laugh at myself for listing my job at the local supermarket as “grocery bagger.” I can imagine one of the officers reading it and breathing out a sigh of relief that I didn’t use some euphemism like “clerk.” And you say they “need to see a ‘whole person?’” How “whole” was having one job in four years of high school, and a menial one at that? How “whole” was listing five extracurriculars, two of which were online? How whole were the SAT Subject Tests that I didn’t submit?

The concept of the ideal Chicago applicant can’t be qualified or quantified: it just is.

man i’m dying here! i need to know! i’ve gotten sooo many rejections today! 2 were from places i knew i had no chance at and didn’t plan to attend if i was accepted. the other one was JHU and i thought I had a good chance. damn it all!! My 1st choice was chicago over jhu but it still hurts baaaad to get rejected by jhu. if I get accepted to chicago tomorrow, then all will be good b/c it was my 1st choice. right now i just want jhu to burn haha

Haha brinestorm, what were your online extracurriculars?

I listed something online as service but I dont think it was on the actual application, just the resume that I attatched.

My packet was postmarked March 29th.

[li] Major Strength/Weakness: Obviously my test scores were working against me. Yet my essays, interview, and extracurriculars were exceptional. [/li][/ul]Other Factors: My interview was -fantastic-. I had a blast and as I was leaving, my interviewer remarked, “–When you are accepted–, make sure you plan an overnight visit…”

So, it appears that they really do stick to their word about test scores. (A word about mine: Each test was only taken once and during a very turbulent period of my life, truly a terrible representation of my merit… At least I hope so!) But hopefully this will inspire some of you with ‘low’ test scores. Hopefully you wrote some fantastic essays! Good luck…

I am from California (Southern California). I have received mine. Wait Listed!!! Hahahaha. Anyway, do I just wait or, now what do I do?

Congratulations, guys!! :D

I think the mail travels slower to smaller cities. I’ve noticed that acceptances can get clear across the country…NY to OR for instance…a day or two before getting to KY or TX. I know our mail takes an extra hop to San Antonio and then to Corpus Christi.

hmm, im here in san francisco (real big city, its the regional dist. center) and no mail yet (as of thursday)… but yeah, maybe thats just chance, your theory sounds plausible, taxi
