OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

HAYY guys! … im an international… should i be worried by now if i had not received an interview yet? Is this a bad omen?

@yescolumbia
no it’s not a bad omen. it’s normal. Some people get an interview some people do not. it’s random. And interviews don’t really affect your chances that much.

Hey!!! china!! im from China tooo! - except i live in AUS haha - came from LiaoNing province

@yescolumbia

oh nice! i was a kiwi for 5 yrs! WAIT so ur ASIAN or like Caucasian living in China?

ASIAN obviously as my hometown’s in JiLin…a kiwi for 5 years? I didn’t know that you could stop being a kiwi…:)

Well some Caucasian people are born in China :P. Lol Moved to AUs - so technically im an Aussie haha. - i did attend AGS in Auckland u? when did u migrate back to China?

I left nz real early, I grew up there and came back to BJ in 2002~

@cupcakebreeder: She’s still applying to Columbia, I believe. I think she’s also applying to Texas A&M.

heyyy guys! i just found this its so cool to see all these other columbia kids before we even get our decisions…

we might get our decisions before the 15th? oh god im gonna realllly be on edge starting dec. 1st lol

im from NY, theres one other kid from my school applying ED to columbia; we’re like best friends hopefulllly no awkwardness will follow if decisions are less than pleasant

yeah a couple of my friends also applie ED to columbia.

Wow, I live in Toronto and I know only 3 people applying to the US, let alone Columbia.

Gee you guys are lucky. 8 people from my school, including myself, are applying ED to Columbia. yikes!

i wonder if they’ve already reviewed my application…

hey guys!
i applied ed also!
im a hispanic female from socal (sounds so weird to introduce myself this way)
going into medicine (stem cell/neurobio)
i had my interview a while ago on a day’s notice, the guy called me and now im super anxious for my results!
im so glad to find this!
my downfall is my 650 sat in crit reading but i am really nervous when i take the sat so im not doin it again

by the way i just wanted to say that im like in love with all of you because im totally feeling the same nervous energy// fear of rejection
if we get in i swear we all need to meet up and party

Forgot to introduce myself:

I’m a half-black, half-white guy from NJ (the good part of it). Undecided major, though I am interested in a few fields. Had my interview and it went incredibly well. I see my main weakness being a bad junior year. I got straight A’s freshman year and one B sophomore year, but my Junior year i had 4 89’s and no sympathy from the teachers even though I had a number of absences due to illness. Dropped my rank from top 5% to top 10%. Life goes on though.

what mark does an A correspond to? In my school anything above 83 is an A and above 73 is a B. etc etc.

At my school a 90-100 is an A, though most teachers round an 89.5 up. 80-89 is a B, etc.

Firstly im international - so i dont get how American schools do their allocation of ABCDE. okay so like what if various subjects are harder than others? surely there is scaling right? ie at my school the highest lvl mathematics will get an A with a mark above 65 raw while for visual arts or something an A is awarded to students with above 90 raw.

Is this system similar to how American schools do their scaling? or is every subject scored the same?
