OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

^cupcake breeder, I was just going through new posts and I just had to tell you, I love your username:D have a good day!!

The ‘Official’ date for ED Notification is December 15th, but it’s always that date, and nearly every other year finds out about a week before.

I came late to this thread, so I’ll start with an intro:

I’m a white female from Pittsburgh, PA. I’m fluent in Japanese, and I created a series of games to help high school students study for SATs.

I just felt the need to mention my nightmare about Columbia (I keep trying to convince myself that I’m not obsessed, but I guess my subconscious disagrees). I dreamt that I found some guy more qualified than I for Columbia who applied, so I stole his soul (and thus, obviously his application…shrug). I don’t know if it helped me or not…

I think it was triggered of a combination of a great interview and too much Dr. Who…

Cupcake Breeder
Thanks! But, on the site it says ‘on or before Dec 15th’. And the last few years it has come out on the 11th and 7th or something. Which is why i’m confused. Do they mail us telling us what date and time?

I’m curious as to when we get our decisions as well. lol, I can’t even have a legitimate countdown this way…

sigh In my school there are 3 other people applying early decision, all of whom I know and am friends with. We’re all in one of the same classes as well. Oh man, AP Chem will be awkward the day after decisions…
Do any of you have friends/other people from your school applying ED as well?

@kjprice: Doctor Who-induced nightmares are, of course, the best kind. I wouldn’t worry too much about that.

@Mary-Um: I have a couple of friends applying ED, but they’re people I met at a summer college program, they don’t go to my school. So school won’t be awkward, but the inevitable Facebook conversations totally could be.

Yeah, There are three other people (that I know of) who applied to Columbia ED. I’m friends with one, acquaintances with one, and don’t know the other. It’s going to be sad if my friend doesn’t get in and I do or vice versa, we’re going to call each other crying regardless of what happens, lol.

Lol, that’s what I told my friends, regardless of what happens I will be crying.

What’s funny to think about is how the class of 2015 will be reading this next year as they wait for their decisions…unless I’m the only one who creeps around the class of 2013 and 2012 ED results.

when we get my first quarter grades, should we send them in?

Haha, no I totally creep past results threads. It’s so captivating.

Hello! Never posted before, I feel incredibly late getting in on the fun!

Short intro:
Gender: Male
Race: Whitey for sure.
From: PA
Acads: 2170 SATs (eh), 2nd in private school class of 196
Hook: Sister that went to Barnard? Though that probably hardly accounts for much. Also, became the 2009-2010 Dance Masters of America National Champion Dancer (as a guy, I hope that accounts for something) in July, and previously a 3-time Dance Masters of America PA State Champion Dancer

Does anyone know the % of applicants last year who were deferred vs. rejected? Forgive me if this question’s already been answered, but I have much too much AP Calc to do to mull over 20 pages of threads, as entertaining as they are. Thanks!
Chance me! Just kidding, please don’t.

I asked a similar question (mainly concerned with how many people they defer). I think on their website they say their ED admit rate is 25%. While no one answered me about the % or # of people deferred, I searched around an found that they don’t defer many people, something about recognizing that people are making a commitment to Columbia by applying ED.

hey AField819, welcome aboard!

i wouldnt say “eh” to those sats when compared to mine…lol. i think we have around 45 EDers now. YAY!

oh AP Calc BC…how i hate thee.

and yeah, I think we have to send in 1st quarter grades, mine just came out so I’m mailing them out tomorrow.

Do we have to mail out our first quarter grades?

hey guys, as far as I know, most people get their results on 15th but some people might get it earlier(I’ve also heard that usually many people know the results about a week before 15th). I do know of a few people who are applying for ED, and they didn’t do well on their interview but their statistics are alright.
And thanks Katydone! :)

One girl I know said she was going to apply ED, but didn’t get around to it. She’s currently being recruited for archery.

how do we mail out first quarter grades? do we send a print out of our report card…?

Rajincajunfire : Archery?? So…where is she going now? That’s pretty interesting cuz my friend is going on the same route and he thought he was the super rare one.

And about the first quarter grades… You only need to provide them if they are counted as actual grades in your school, and if it’s available now, send them via mail ASAP even if it’s a little behind the actual deadline.

The Decisions come out online by email and they mail you a letter later, so to answer CollegeMcDreamy : no they don’t mail you the date. You just don’t know exactly when you’ll find out until you actually find out.

really? i remember reading somewhere that early in december they e-mail you the exact date that you will be notified of the decision. otherwise, how would other decision threads from years ago all know exactly what day they were going to find out, and had countdowns to the exact date (which was not december 15th)?

oh really? I didn’t know that! That would be awesome if it’s true. Thanks for the info :)
