OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

stanford, tufts and gtown… but they’re nowhere near columbia!!!

For me, it’s only first choice - Columbia. There’s no second choice. But I’m applying to six other places. I guess in order of interest it would be:

1) Brown
2) Stanford
3) NYU
4) UT Plan II
5) U Chicago
6) Fordham

those kind of encompass my reaches/matches/safeties (as much as I hate those terms)

I don’t think grad school counts as legacy…because it would be Harvard Medical School, Harvard Law School, etc.

mine is penn.

We will find out soon enough. Hopefully we will receive an email tomorrow letting us know when we can expect our decisions…

Tufts is…kinda…close.

sakahn: legacy for columbia? i am too, but my dad got his masters there, so i looked on the website and says only for CC or the engineering school are you considered legacy (i guess i am b/c even if he got a masters he still went to the engineering school for physics). but if your parent went to another graduate school, it still helps, but not the same as it would if you were legacy.

damn im business school. whatever im smart enough!

I will continue to sit at my computer refreshing my inbox.

Anyway, my second choice is Brown.

Does Columbia give preference in the admission process to applicants whose parents attended Columbia?
We are always pleased to receive applications from students whose family members have graduated from Columbia. When an applicant is extremely competitive and compares favorably with other similarly talented candidates, being the daughter or son of a Columbia University graduate (from any Columbia school or college) may be a slight advantage in the admission process. This advantage may especially apply for “legacy” candidates.

Please note: applicants are considered to be “legacies” of Columbia only if they are the children of Columbia College or the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science graduates.

In order of interest, my “second choice” schools are:

Pomona College

Dartmouth College

University of Virginia

James Madison University

Top two are my “reaches”, UVA is my “match”, and JMU is my “safety.”

oh no thats harvard haha. i have undergrad legacy for mit, sucks that i suck at math :frowning: and berkeley but uc schools are going crazy now!

Second choice is Stanford/Northwestern/UChicago

georgetown :)

oooh sfs??
oh do siblings count as legacy?

Ideally, NYU is my second choice. But their financial aid sucks, so that would never ever happen. Maybe Sarah Lawrence…

Also, U of Richmond just freaked me out with an email, i thought it was Columbia… :(

Northwestern/Tufts are my next 2

My other applications: Northwestern, NYU, Barnard, USC, University of Michigan, Boston University.

Hey guys so someone from the admissions office told me we’d get the email today when I called last Friday but then when I called today(yess…a bit obnoxious:P) the person said “sometime early this week”
and there was no mention of a 5 pm notification, that was just kind of assumed…
Sorry for all the confusion guys

Brown is my second choice, and from there (in any order): UPenn, Cornell, Wesleyan, Northwestern, Tufts, Boston College. Safeties are The College of New Jersey and Rutgers- New Brunswick
