OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

Speaking of dreams, I had a dream a few nights ago that I was talking to my guidance counselor, and Barack Obama was there (?), and we started talking about Columbia and he told me that he thinks I’ll get in if I keep myself motivated and work hard, and the only thing I thought when he said that was “That’s such an Obama thing to say” (I think I was thinking of his speech where he tells students to keep working hard in school). LOL

But overall, I’m trying to think optimistically, but not too much because I don’t want to start breaking down if the news isn’t good…

cinderella:

OMG NO WAY! I totally know what you are talking about…I am quite superstitious and believe in signs, so I am really hoping they are good signs!

All my friends know how in love I am with Columbia and how I have been seeing these “signs” since September, and when we went to go see Whip It and one of the characters got into Columbia ALL OF US FREAKED out… it was really funny but seriously like crazy because once again it just popped up out of nowhere!

I think the admission officers process our packages by geography regions not by last name in alphabetical.

@lovebirds
I heard this speech thing of the supposed Columbia Dean of Undergrad Admissions officer from the internet, and she said that there’s 20 people in her office, each taking care of several regions. But, I don’t know if she’s really the Dean, cause I googled her name and nothing showed up:( But I am pretty sure the recording was not fake.

@ espresso: such an awesome dream!! i’ve always wanted columbia like no other, but the fact that obama went there makes it even better :slight_smile: is there anything more perfect? umm… no.

@katy

i do think that they process by region. at least when the rep visited my high school that was what she said…

I think the Dean name is used by the admissions officers for many common responses. But you can search her name plus Columbia University to find out more info or check from CU faculty.

@sarah: I know! Exact same thing for me. Eeee!

I should probably off this board and actually do my homework now lol. No point in stressing over the decisions until tomorrow…

Tomorrow, no matter what decision it is, we need to prepare tens boxes of tissue at hands!!!

oh godddddd…i had a nightmare that i did worse on the SATs the second time…and i DID. i hope i don’t have a nightmare about columbia tonight!!

@katy. It is processed by regions, at least one of the readings is. I think they read it two times, one by your regional officer, another time by someone else. I heard that from the way too many Columbia info sessions I obsessively went to

Have you guys checked Yale’s threads. It seems all of them have excellent scores. I haven’t seen so good scores in our threads yet. Hopefully we post strong trully stats tomorrow after the decisions.

It’s 10th Dec here in Singapore.

18.5 hours to go.

Thank god, I’ll spend at least 6-7 of those hours asleep.

it didnt work for me either…yet :::::::::::)))))))))))))
goodnight everyone. i will follow the trend and go to bed.
nighty night.
i hope the next time we meet…we will be CC/SEAS '14!!!

roar.

Good luck to all of you from a Cornell EDer! Hopefully the next 18 hours will go by quickly!

Oh man, so I’m pretty sure if I stayed ED I would’ve gotten in.

I get a call at Lunch from an admissions person (I decided to convert to RD yesterday), and I thought it’d just be a routine confirmation because I wouldn’t get in. But then he goes on to ask me why, and I state my reasons, and he really wanted me to stick ED.

Then one of my recommenders, my TASP factotum and Columbia alumni, got an email thanking him for the “excellent” rec he wrote me and that it was really helpful in evaluating my app, and that I unfortunately decided to switch to regular decision, and that she looks forward to re-evaluating my app and reading his recommendation again!

I wish I could’ve stuck with it, but my freaking non-custodial parent totally screwed up the financial aid stuff and barely sent it in about a week ago really. Ugh I was so mad!

So hopefully I can still be admitted in the regular pile. I hope you guys hear good news tomorrow!
