I don’t think it would hurt, as long as its a really strong letter. It is a bit late though so I am not sure how it will be viewed. Ask admissions directly!

@Truman

yeah, you should submit the another LOR if that’s the case since that instructor elevation will be useless in some sense. Thus, I highly recommend for you to send in another one. Sadly, I only lived in Tsinghua for 12 years for elementary and middle school. I went to high school in the states and now going to USC. So, it’s hard for me to give you a rank overall. As a matter of fact, I don’t think most of the major universities give out ranks at all in your transcript. It’s your gpa that counts.

Has anybody on this forum been contacted for a phone interview by ILR? I know that I had spoken to the Ian many times and he confirmed that no phone interviews will be offered for Fall 2013 transfer applicants on multiple occasions, however I hear of a few students receiving these interviews. I would imagine that it would be a good sign to receive these interviews? Perhaps students who do not require an interview are simply clear cut choices (either definite yes or definite no)? What do you guys think?

That’s odd, if they told you no phone interviews then why would they do them. Maybe for extenuating circumstances? Don’t look too much into it, none of us can predict this stuff.

I just finished my phone interview. They asked:
-Why ILR?
-Is there anything you would like to tell me about yourself?
-Have you taken any economics or English composition courses?
-Do you have any questions for me?

I’m not sure why I received an interview… I suspect I’m a fairly average applicant

@Doc
For question three, have you taken micro/macro and a writing/English course?

@Tautao

Though I don’t know how much it matters on the issue of LOR, I will send one tomorrow ,anyway. hopefully, it will still be in time. Btw, it may seem weird, but I also applied for USC in case I don’t get into Cornell. The problem is that I didn’t send a LOR either.
Do you suggest me to send one now? Actually I applied for Marshall, do you have any insight over this B-school?

@SMRSMR

I know it may be of no importance to ask. But I am still wondering how Cornell would view my GPA since I have different GPA under different systems. Would it be a 4.0 or around 3.8 for them? If I submit a strong letter, do you think I get a shot? And when will the notification start?

My STAT is on page 36.
A lot of thanks:)

@Truman, I actually don’t know. If you sent them transcripts from both your colleges, all your grades will be calculated in I think.

@ron Not quite, which I imagine may have to do with why I was interviewed. I tested out of the requirement in high school. I took an English course this year, but the interviewer just wanted to know more about it.

I don’t mean to freak any applicants out, but I am starting to come to the conclusion that my hypothesis was correct. It seems as though ILR applicants who received a phone interview are “maybe” applicants whereas applicants who received no interviews are clear “yes” or clear “no” candidates. Logically, it would not make sense to interview applicants who are a clear “yes” or a clear “no”. Also, from the types of questions that were asked in the interview, it seems like a very generic and broad way of speculating an applicant; which most likely means that they are not sure about the applicant. That is just my take on it. What do you guys think?

Well they’re definitely looking at applications. I took an extra class this semester at a CC as I didn’t know about transfer requirements until after registration at my current school. They wanted to know what my midterms were in that course as I only submitted midterms for the 5 courses i’m in at my current school. So anxious hopefully they’re cutting things down and getting ready to mail out the first set of decisions here in the next few days. Based on last years thread we might start hearing about decisions as early as Monday.

Yeah yolocholo, they scrutinize every little detail. I like to think of that as a good sign, if you were a bad candidate they would probably not even care about that 1 class.

Well, a “maybe” is better than a “no”! At the end of my interview, I was told to expect a decision after the second week of April.

AEM, always the dominant choice. I wish there were as many IB openings for you monkeys. (Wall Street Oasis reference)

As an AEM student, ask me anything you please in my thread. I’ll be brutally honest about the program. And don’t ask me about BOLD, BOLD sucks: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/1451439-ask-me-anything-about-cornell.html

@DocRabbit

Yeah, no kidding. I would much rather be in your shoes. You’re so lucky that you know when your decision is coming!!! I would be able to relax much more if I actually knew when my decision was coming. Some applicants end up having to wait until the end of April just to hear a NO! Talk about agony.

@docrabbit, that is definitely true. And honestly if you did well on the interview, you have just put yourself on the good side of the applicant pool, good luck!

@Vspecter, from what I have seen in previous threads, the rejections are sent out later in the cycle. Earlier notifications are noticeably only acceptances. Although applicants get accepted later on too.

Being in AEM already, nobody in this updated list looks particularly competitive.

@Unibames

With all due respect, I believe that is something that should be decided by the admissions committees
