For Econ and Acct majors, is Calc 2 now required? Last year it could have been replaced with Stat but now it seems you have to take Calc 2 and Stat is no longer accepted?

we will most likely hear back within 5 days! but its ridiculous! people with exceptionally high GPAs have heard back, either being accepted or rejected, and here I, with a 3.3 have yet to hear back… I really don’t understand on what basis they do this whole notification thing.

@rmalani Hi, just my take on the delay in notification. That being said, “my take” is based on the experiences of nine of my family members (counting a cousin or two) who have been through the UC admissions process successfully. Albeit some didn’t get into top tier schools, but accepted mid-tier school admissions, and one went to UCR, a rigorous, yet less popular campus. So many people apply, that a “lower” GPA might be considered to be well above 3.5, just based on the thousands of applicants with higher GPAs. The reason I think admissions offices don’t notify the majority of non-admitted applicants until May 29 and May 30, is to postpone the deluge of appeals that they would face before they have even fully completed the admission of higher GPA students. Delaying also gives time for perspective. It is a rare applicant who is unaware of their peer’s rough statistics and their admission results. Hearing that some of the more competitive applicants have also been denied, strictly because there are too many talented and smart students for the seats available, makes rejection more acceptable, if not more palatable. A postponed reality check, if you will. UC Merced needs to grow like topsy and develop a sports presence, and we will all have pleasanter choices.

At least 5 people with a 3.3 have been accepted on this thread in Econ and Acct alone. Don’t give up hope yet! :slight_smile:

@MaMoi77 you dont think anybody who is pending got accepted???

@akfieldhockey I’m not saying that. The chance for admission is quite possible. I’m just sharing my family’s experiences with patterns of rejection: i.e. less competitive candidates heard later that they were denied. Hope remains! In 2012 a family member that had applied to 8 UCs (5 admits) finally heard back from UCI on Sunday April 29th that he had been admitted. He had been admitted to UCR about March 15, UCSC late March and UCSB early April; in late April he was admitted to Davis the day before he was denied by UCLA, UCSD and Berkeley in rapid succession before admission to UCI.

Do any bio majors know if you have to finish all four biology classes (organismal,ecology,cell molecular, and genetics) to be accepted?

@uchopeful15
Yes, the econ department took out the option of having one calc and one state class.
