Official Fall 2015 UCSB Transfer Thread.

Me too

Same

@zsyed94 Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara are not even in the same league, especially in physics. UCSB as a whole is way better and their physics is world class. I think you should major in physics as an undergrad and then specialize in astrophysics as a graduate student.

@richgucci I use the major prep courses. So, basically all of the math, physics, chem, and engineering classes.

I was up here just now breathlessly reading your saga. I’m so sorry, @QueSeraSera04.

Saga? Lol Am I that dramatic? @lindyk8 I suppose I have been…haha It’s just stressful! Rejected by 2 out of 4 UC’s. I know I’m not getting into UCB so my only sliver of hope is UCI. But if I can’t get into UCSB I doubt UCI will take me either. le sigh @-)

That’s not true. UCI might still come through. Stay strong!

@QueSeraSera04 hey im with you!! I’m still waiting for all 3: UCB, UCSB, and UCI. My top is UCB… doubt I’ll get in. MY hope is UCSB… i tagged, but im seeing a couple people get rejected with TAGS so Im worried. And not sure if I would want to go to UCI. ive never been dont know too much about it… applied to UCI on a whim.
So all my eggs are basically in UCSB.

@QueSeraSera04 From another thread I see that you applied to all the UCs, and you made a reference to having a gpa approximating another transfer student’s 3.0. Have you heard back from Merced or Riverside or Santa Cruz yet? If you have, have you considered the CSU admissions cycle also? CSUs are really excellent teaching institutions, where the UCs are much less focused on student learning and more on research (students are expected to hit the ground running, despite outside responsibilities, etc.)

@nappysama oh I see. thanks.

@QueSeraSera04 Whats your major and gpa? did u finish all prereqs? Good luck on UCI!

My major problem obviously is my GPA, I only have a 3.23. So I understand that I’m bottom of the barrel out the gate. Also, im an OOS student. So I checked with a CS counselor and she said it looked like I was good on my pre reqs for UC’s but she couldn’t tell me for certain that everything would translate over. I couldn’t apply to CSU’s because my speech and come didn’t transfer. I couldn’t apply to all UC’s, couldn’t afford it. So I only applied to 4, I know I should’ve never tried for UCB or UCSD but a girl can dream can’t she?!?! Lol @richgucci @MaMoi77

um…so I was rejected on March 16th. I figured it was because I didn’t take a calc course so I didn’t bother to call and ask. However since I was in the process of calling other UCs, I figured why not. Turns out they didn’t even review my application because they evaluated it before I updated my spring courses (I started mid Feb., they evaluated late Jan). When they evaluated my application, I had under 60 semester units but after I added courses, I have exactly 61. The lady I talked to told me that I have a pretty good chance at being granted admission through an appeal. So to everyone who got rejected, don’t lose hope! Call them and ask for a reason and then appeal because you guys have absolutely nothing to lose and can only gain from the process.

@woahwhat That’s great to hear. I wish you the best!

do they count all your units? or only ones they deem transferable… Im coming from Private University not sure which units that they will accept or which classes will transfer… @woahwhat

I have a total of 71 units over the span of two years… with 5 that are incomplete or withdrawn. Within the remaining 66 units, there are 3 classes that are 1 unit each including a lab class, an observation class, and playing collegiate level field hockey. So that leaves me with 63 units… out of those 63 I received a D in one course worth 4 units… Biology… so that would leave me with 59!!!

and I am worried about the transferability of two other classes both worth 4 units…

thoughts?? Will the amount of units I took now be enough?

@akfieldhockey Just a heads up. Be sure to address the “incompletes” within your school’s designated timeframe; otherwise “incomplete” typically automatically reverts to an “F” grade, even if you had a much better grade initially. Athletic/coaching/physEd-type classes don’t usually transfer. I ran track at my CCC, and none of them counted.

My coach said it might count cuz its D1… but he was not sure… or he said it at least it might hold some weigh in the decision process…
Yeah the IC and W already logged before this semester. or are you saying I should explain why I didnt complete the courses??? shoot.
@MaMoi77

@akfieldhockey Regarding the “IC” on your transcript. I’m saying that an Incomplete is given as a placeholder for a final grade. The Incomplete is given by the instructor when they are waiting for you to give them what they need for them to compute your final grade. Usually a student will have several weeks to up to one year to satisfy the requirement to earn a final grade. If a student does not contact the professor and get the work finished the “Incomplete” will be documented on the transcript as a failed class. Incompletes that aren’t completed by their deadline become “F” grades, and can trash your GPA.

I’m currently taking a course that is required for my major by UCLA but not UCSB. This class is currently IP. Although I got into UCSB, I unfortunately didn’t get accepted to UCLA. I want to drop this class, because I am not doing very well in it, and I don’t want my gpa to suffer as a result. Can anyone please give me some insight on whether or not this would effect my admission?

@akfieldhockey Just UC transferable units! Check assist.org to see which of your classes transfer and then count the number of units. You need a minimum of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units to qualify as a junior transfer for all UCs.

@MaMoi77 Bakersfield College
Well, I guess that’s all she wrote for me
