Official Fall 2015 UCSB Transfer Thread.

Still pending :expressionless:

I just received my rejection. Now I’m waiting for UCI and UCM to give me a verdict. Good luck to those who are still waiting and congrats to those who got in!

Decision: Accepted!
UC GPA: 3.6
Major: Actuarial Science
TAG: Yes
Prerequisites: All completed
Essays: 8-9/10
Extracurriculars: Treasurer and secretary of engineering club; science club member
Awards: Phi Theta Kappa; school honor roll
Comments: UCSB was my top choice throughout this process; however, they did not accept me for my primary major (EE). It was a bit sad to have to let go of my dream school, but I’m excited for the upcoming year! Overall I had a fairly successful run with transfer admissions.

Final Tally:
Accepted: UCSB, UCI, UCSC
Waitlisted: UCD, UCSD
Rejected: Nowhere

Ok I just SIRd this morning.
I spoke to a financial aid officer earlier and apparently the decision concerning my financial aid appeal will be out next week. Wish me luck!

For financial aid, do they automatically assume you are living off campus?

Looks like it

Anyone here planning on taking any summer courses?

Result: Accepted! (around the start of admission letters)
Major: Physics (B.S.)
Community College GPA: 3.56
UC Transferrable GPA: 3.51
IGETC: Yes
Pre-requisites: Missing none.

Other/Notes: I had an odd kind of GPA trend, unfortunately mostly downward trending with a B in my 1st phys (after withdrawing from it the previous semester), 1st chem, and 2nd calc courses; while I got a C in my 2nd phys, 3rd calc, and diff. eq… This was on top of withdrawing from 4 courses (honors bio, 2nd chem, 1st phys, and communications) during my 3rd and 4th regular semesters. However, I obtained A grades in all my other courses/pre-reqs (including Bio for science major and IGETC courses), including during a 12 unit summer session between my 4th and 5th regular semesters.

Applied: UCSB, UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSD

I did not get accepted anywhere out of high school, so I applied to a lot more schools this time around. I was 99% sure I was going to go to a CSU; partly because of finances and didn’t think I’d get into a UC. In fact, I didn’t even take the UC app as serious as I should’ve. I only applied to give myself a chance. Then, when I found out I got accepted to UCSB I was beyond shocked! But UCLA acceptance set me over the edge. I didn’t know how to feel, UCLA has always been my dream school (like everyone else). But I fell in love with UCSB before I even visited! Of course family wants me to got to UCLA, not that I don’t want to, but I just feel like I belong at UCSB. However, I have my off days and alternate between the schools. I never thought I would think twice about going to UCLA. Any suggestions?

@Stacy0429 Honestly, go with your gut!

@Stacy0429 First of all, congrats! If UCSB is where you feel you will thrive, go for it. At the end of the day, it isn’t where you go to, it’s what you do at that school. I would recommend visiting the campuses as much as you possibly could and re-evaluate the pros/cons of each school to help you decide which one is best. Good luck <3

anyone here taking summer classes???

@mochibbycake You made a really great point, that I’ve yet to consider. Thanks for responding! Have you decided on a school?

@UCorBust93 I’m tring to, just hard when you have people in your ear lol… and I registered for session B. I’m not 100% sure yet because idk if that will ruin the whole incoming in the fall experience. What are your thoughts?

@Stacy0429 No problem! It really boils down to where you feel most comfortable and which school offers the most benefits (in terms of education, location, socially, etc - whatever you put a preference on first).

My top choice is USC and I’ve received a SGR (Spring Grade Request) from them so I won’t get my final decision until mid July. I am planning to SIR to UCSB for now!

Congratulations to everyone that was accepted and SIRd. I was a Fall 2014 Transfer into UCSB and thought I would come here any give you all a few tips that I noticed made my adjustment and experience during my first year at UCSB perfect.

  1. If you can manage it take 1 or 2 Summer classes during Session B. Adjusting to a new place can be pretty difficult getting oriented with everything around campus and figuring out how the quarter system works; I took 6 Units Session B and I think it really helped my adjustment to a full schedule Fall quarter. If your just looking for Upper Division Units (You need more than just your major units for graduation), I would take Ed 173 over the summer; it is one of the best classes offered at UCSB.

  2. TAKE Ed 118 durring Fall quarter and really try to only take 12 units your first quarter if possible. Ed 118 is a 4 unit course for only transfer students and helps again with the adjustment for the quarter system. It fills up fast so even if you can’t get into Ed 118 I would encourage coming to lectures for the information anyway.

  3. Be open to trying new things and getting involved in as many things as you can successfully manage with academics. This can include joining new clubs that sound interesting, Rushing Greek Life, seeking out an research assistant position, joining associated students, or getting involved with volunteer work within the community ( I have done all of these my first year here and have had such a great experience with each and every one).

If any of you have any specific questions about anything feel free to add me on Facebook & message me and ill try my best to help you out. https://www.facebook.com/jake.gorham.5

Also I would create a Facebook group with your transfer class it was really helpful for my transfer class in the Summer and first quarter.

Also to everyone debating between UCSB & UCLA or Cal. I got into them all and chose UCSB couldn’t have made a better decision. After my first year year I’m convinced this is the best academic experience/college institution in the nation.

Thanks for the insight @jakegorham ! Where’d you live for your first year at SB?

have transfer students registered for fall 2015 classes yet? I was looking at the classes id have to take for fall 2015 and it seems like there all full.

@angled according to gold I don’t register until September.
