A little late but I’m accepted! Here are my stats:
Major: Pre-Biopsychology.
GPA: 3.44
IGETC: Completed.
Prereqs: Finished about half the prereqs.
TAG: No.
ECs: Not much.
PS: 9/10.
Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSD.
Accepted: UCLA, UCD, UCSB.
Rejected: UCB.
I have a question though. Because UCLA didn’t accept me for the major I want, I’m now deciding between Davis and Santa Barbara. They are both great schools but I feel like there is more pressure for me to go to Davis. I recently visited both campuses and love both of them. However, I really fell in love with Santa Barbara’s environment. The main thing I am concerned about is I don’t want to go to a party school. I am very introverted and feel like I would get really annoyed by party kids. Is it really that bad? Also, does anyone have any input on the Biopsychology major at UCSB? How does it compare to a B.S. in Psychology at Davis? I just want to be sure I am making the best decision.
@sammycatt according to all my friends that go there, it isn’t as crazy as it seems. They tell me the only real crazy party scene is the Greek life type of parties. They said everyone is more laid back, but they focus on their academics. Plus a mojority if not all the parties take place in Isla Vista that’s right off the college/Residence halls. I wouldn’t worry too much about the partying.
@sammycatt hey i was in the same exact position as you about a week ago before deciding on attending UCSB. Although UCSB is ranked #1 in my major of sociology as far as undergrad work is concerned, alot of different factors played into my decisions. I had to weigh the pros and cons of going to ucsb as opposed to uc davis. Both schools are phenomenal and offer amazing academic and internship opportunities. So you definitely won’t go wrong whichever one you choose.
As far as major is concerned…i believe davis is a bit stronger than ucsb in the psychology department (just based on what i’ve heard and seen while i visited davis). US news has UCSB ranked 40th in psychology where as davis stands at #21, so if you like rankings theres that info. However, my personal opinion is that since both of these schools are so close in academic excellence, i’d say to just go with wherever you feel you’d totally thrive truthfully and realistically! I considered the closeness to home as well as any support i’d have around the area. My brother lives near UCSB and has a car which can help me pick up any groceries whenever the need too. Most importantly i just felt more at home when i visited UCSB. Th campus has a great charm to it in the sense that everything sort of just comes to you (social life, vibrant personalities, students/professors offering help/ etc…). Idk, but it just was something that i didn’t feel while at davis. Although don’t get me wrong davis was great in it’s own unique way. But for me…UCSB’s atmosphere and down to earth students just fit my lingo better. xD
So just choose the place that will offer you everything you are looking for personally. I’ve included the URL below that talks a little bit about your question as far as the psychology major goes. It’s an old thread from 2012 but i still believe it may/could still serve some use for you.
@sammycatt Don’t worry. I’m in the same boat as you about UCSB. I’m not a full introvert or anything, but I don’t drink or do drugs or party or anything of that nature. Everyone always freaks out when I tell them I’m possibly going to SB (I’m waiting for USC’s decision in July). They are known for parties, of course, but that doesn’t take away the academic excellence of the school. The vibe is very chill and welcoming (from what I’ve noticed when I visited). I used to be afraid of fitting in and thinking only the rowdy “party” types would fit in, but after visiting it and talking to the actual students on the campus, it’s not something that surges through everyone. There is a lot to the campus beyond the partying that everyone tends to overlook. If we both end up going to SB, we can go “party” at the library, haha.
As for UCD vs UCSB, I think you should look into the major you have been accepted to: Psych vs BioPsych. See which one fits you best (or fits the type of career path you want) and see what kind of courses they offer at each school, so you can figure out which program is best for you. I don’t know much about UCD so I can’t comment on that.
Best of luck to you!
@ShuttlepilotND Not that I know of. I’m waiting for it to be created too, haha.
Out of curiosity, I submitted TAG for UCSB and fulfilled all the requirements(I think) and maintained well above the stated GPA. However, I wasn’t accepted…anyone in similar situation. I’m transferring to Cal or UCSD but I just want to know why?
I finished Math 2(precalc) in fall. Currently taking Math 7(Calc1) & will be taking Math 8(Calc2) in summer. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t able to finish the Calc series by spring?
Has anybody gotten their housing contract yet? We’re supposed to have them by today. All that’s required is to have listed your housing preferences by June 10th right? I’m starting to think maybe I did something wrong.
Yes, so long as you follow the TAG agreement exactly. One of those requirements is to have 30 units at the time of submitting the TAG. Are you applying to transfer now?
