AP Lang anybody???

Anyone know about Calculus BC? I got a 5 on AB and since I’m applying to MIT BC would be nice, but my school isn’t going to offer it this year. I could take calc 2 off campus but with marching band and college applications and scholarships, I feel like I already have too much on my plate to take another dual-enrollment class. But I’m not sure about BC on flvs…

@zhulagirlz I know someone taking BC on FLVS and they say it’s fine. A lot of work, yes, but it’s not terrible - you actually learn.

@KissedByNiiah - see the first few pages. AP lang has quite a few assignments.

I know this is about FLVS but at my school we are required to use NCVPS if we want to take an online class. I’m planning in taking Ap computer science on NCVPS next year with some prior programming experience (just the basics). Has anyone else taken the class on NCVPS? If you have taken it on FLVS is it difficult? My only concern is that the concepts will be hard to understand in an online environment rather than with a teacher. Thanks!

Any Florida students who have taken the mandatory Health Opportunities through PE (HOPE) at FLVS.

The thought is to take it over the summer or as a independent course during the school year. The benefit is to clear a slot in the regular class schedule for an AP class.

Yea or nay, is the class time consuming or can it be knocked out in 6 weeks without much stress? Am I right to try and open a daily AP slot at school for the future 9th grader - APUSH, AP statistics or even a third (Eng, Spanish, French) language at 9th grade maybe?

Any other suggestions for HOPE?

Also, I would ask the same yea or nay for AP Human Geo?

Are AP HG test in May/June When will you schedule the AP HG exam? May/June 2013?
How does that work if you finish AP HG summer class in August 2012?

^If you finish the assignments early you don’t get kicked out the course. Just stop going to the website. But do go to the website around April-May to access the review sessions and also to get the necessary paperwork you’ll need to fill out for course credit.

Hey i am considering taking Ap pshycology on Flvs (i live in florida) but i was wondering like what is it like to take an Ap class online ? … cause i took 3 classes on there and they are all REALLY REALLY annoying so i was wondering bout Ap ?

Can someone tell me about AP US History thinking about taking it this august and AP psychology since they added it for Florida students. If you could answer some of my questions
How many assignments are there?
Are the courses hard?
Are there a lot of essays?
Are the quizzes and test hard and can I reset them?

And also to add to those questions
If the assignments have due dates ? or is just u go at your own pace but u need to finish before Ap exams time

You’re expected to do three assignments a week.

Hi guys, I plan to take some APs on FLVS, however, where and how do I reg for AP exams in May? My school only offer APs to those who physically take courses in school. Taking exams is the only reason why I want to study on FLVS. Please help me out.

I want to move to florida now :(

@Ikang : do you know that for a fact? if so you will probably end up going to a different school for the exam although if your school has the exam and a proctor i think its against a law for them to not allow you to sit in the room and take the EXACT SAME TEST. if anything it saves them money

Does anyone know the details about the FLVS AP macroeconomics and microeconomics courses?

I’m thinking about switching out of AP Stats during my grace period.

unless you found statistics extremely easy even before you considered taking the course, don’t take AP stats on FLVS

After seeing some of the good feedback that the AP Stats class received on CC, I decided to take it but I found the class mediocre. The lessons don’t explain very thoroughly and when they do explain concepts, they don’t do it very well. I decided to use Barron’s as a supplement for the class, but then when I used it to help me understand the information, the information I got from Barrons was ‘incorrect’ and so I ended up getting answers wrong on a quiz. The teacher said that Barron’s is an unreliable source for studying for the AP stats exam… The teacher wasn’t helpful at all either. I have messaged her questions (she said emailing was the best way to reach her), but she never responds. She will reply to emails concerning calls and scheduling discussions w/ parents, and will grade my quizzes, but whenever I ask a question she never answers.

And since you can’t reset the quizzes, if I used information I learned from Barron’s (which I do often on quizzes when the lesson never mentioned anything about the topic), I end up getting low scores that I can’t reset. I can’t not use a supplement either, since my teacher won’t answer any of my questions and by trying to wait for her to respond for 4 days, I fell behind in my assignments. Eventually I just gave up on asking questions and now I’m trying to figure things out on my own, which is proving to be difficult without being able to use any supplement for the class.

I feel like I’m basically self-studying a class with a mediocre set of lessons with barely any in-depth information or explanations, and a person who judges how well I’m self-studying.

I think the FLVS AP stats course was designed for innate math whizzes who have no problem understanding concepts without any help at all. The lessons don’t have much information and so (although others have said the quizzes are easy) I think you are supposed to click when they give you information and then just assume things on your own. The explanations for some of the lessons are extremely unclear and so I misunderstood them often. If you’re like me and need help to be able to understand everything, then I would definitely NOT take this course. Do not do not do not do not take this course if you don’t think you’ll be able to get through the course without asking any questions. If you end up having the same teacher as I do, I doubt that you’ll ever get your questions answered. My teacher always ignores my questions unless they deal with something like “the bell rang before I finished my quiz and I had to log out. Could you reset it?” -___-

Also,

I’m also taking Spanish III Honors (not AP though) and AP Comp Sci A on FLVS. I love them. When I first looked at Barron’s study guide for comp sci, I had no idea what I was even reading but the AP comp sci course makes everything really easy to understand and so I rarely ever have to ask for help. I find AP comp sci really fun.

If you’re looking for a fun AP to take, I’d totally recommend AP comp sci. n__n
… I’m a dummy when it comes to anything technology-wise, and I don’t know anything about computers (let alone programming) but the lessons are fun and so I have a 100 in the class haha.

^ can you go into depth on Spanish 3 Honors? I plan on taking it this next summer and
I think the AP Stats problem is your teacher moreso than the class.
and you can really blame him/her because u used wrong info when all the quiz info should be in the lesson BUT he/she SHOULD BE HELPING YOU WHEN YOU NEED IT

@gomdorri- the Stats teacher should be responding to you promptly. You can always go through the specific principal if you aren’t getting help/attention. That is what a friend did and it seemed to help.
Regarding the Ap Comp Sci- did you take the FLVS Computer Programming 1 class with Python and Java first? Who is your teacher for AP CS? What do you think of the assignments? Are they manageable even with a full “brick and mortar school” course load? My kid is in the CP1 right now and loves it. She was issued the Scribbler robot and is learning alot. She is thinking about taking the AP CS in her junior year but will have a packed schedule as well. Thoughts??

quick question – are courses self-paced? the one i want to take (AP enviro sci) is two semesters but am i allowed to finish it in one? i really don’t want to pay two semesters worth of tuition. thanks!

There is a minimum number of assignments you have to submit per week (3) for any FLVS course.

However, there is no limit to how fast you can work. The only thing I can see limiting how fast you work is how fast the teacher grades your work. Teachers generally don’t like it when students work in other sections without finishing the current section.

That being said, I finished three two-segment courses in the span of 5-6 weeks. You shouldn’t have much of a problem with Environmental Science.

What I’m not sure about is how payments go for OOS students … do you pay for how many segments you take, or do you only pay for how long it takes for you to complete an entire course? The former would seem to make more sense, but that’s for you to figure out …
