@Aleksandr7 I also just started AP Bio (literally procrastinating on making my first text reads right now) It definitely is kind of overwhelming. I think I’m at an advantage since I just finished Honors Biology with them this summer. And yeah, I am definitely having to revise how I take notes. Right now, I’m just reading every individual section and writing brief, vague summaries of what I read.
@Bozusaki Yeah, same. I find that if you try to bring up your own examples or rationale, it really helps. Also, I sometimes pause reading and then “lecture” myself about what I just read (yes, I talk to myself lol). It’s a great way to retain what I read.
Any new opinions on AP Government and Macro/Microecon? I wanna take those sometime before senior year so I can have more room in my schedule (they’re both graduation requirements for seniors). Also considering AP Stats after Gov and Econ, so any thoughts on that course would be cool too.
Update: lots of mistakes in the AP Calculus AB course, I don’t know how their curriculum hasn’t caught all of this yet…I keep having to forward a lot of stuff to them and all my teacher says is “great job catching that mistake!” -_-
AP Bio, still very heavy course. AP Psych is also very heavy on memorization. Ugh.
I’m trying to decide if I should take AP macro on flvs. This year, I’m a Jr. And I’m already taking AP Psych (on flvs), ENC (school) (dual enrollment), and AMH (school) (dual enrollment). I was planning on starting around December and trying to finish around March-Aprilish. Is that possible with the workload I currently have? Also, how difficult is the course? How many assignments, what are tests like, how much reading, etc. I planned to take macro because I have no interest in pursuing Econ in college, but if I should take micro instead, let me know!
@Bensonfan23 I know you posted this 3 years ago, but I wanted to know something very important.
You were talking about AP Art History and giving a lot of insight, but something you said I found important and I have a question about it. You had said, “In my online apush course from a different provider, I find myself only reading the text book and going straight to assignments. In my Flvs course, I haven’t opened my textbook, and don’t plan to.”
What is that different online provider that provided you your APUSH? It seems like that online provider’s workload is not a lot, so I would like to ask about it?
Anybody who’s taking or has taken AP Macro or Micro Econ happen to know what the course code is at the end of the course URL? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, it’ll say “educatorXXXXvY” near the end of URL, but in place of the Xs, it should say like “apmicroecon” or something like that. I really want to look at the course before I decide to take it, so I’d appreciate if anybody would let me know what it says in places of the Xs.
Take it. I am taking it right now, and as long as your consistently working on it, your in the green. I would recommend buying a Macro study guide on amazon, I have the Barron edition. Some of the questions on the tests and even the assignments can be tough, just use prior knowledge to build off of. Take good notes, and review before tests (the tests are simple, usually only 30-40 questions). Other than that, It is a great class. It doesn’t pursue some of the extensive ideologies and theories, but rather just gives an overview. I started watching some of the Khan Academy’s videos to help my understanding of some lessons, as the lessons only take 20-30 minutes, even when taking notes.
Hey. Is anyone else having the following problem:
I saw that AP courses are open until November 30th. However, now that I try to enroll for any AP course it says that the course is currently unavailable. And for the three that are available, when I try to choose with whom I want to take it, neither FLVS nor my district virtual school is able to be selected. What do I do? I REALLY need to take these classes! Also, why is my district virtual school not providing any of these courses?
@GoingGreatPlaces I would contact their customer support ASAP.
Any reviews for AP Psych on FLVS? I just started it through a grant my school received and I’m hoping I’m not in for hell (as I’m already taking AP Calc AB, AP Lit, AP US Gov, and APES in school)
k
@jesterjames Well this is a bit of a late reply (sorry), but I am currently taking AP Psychology on FLVS. from my experience, it’s not that difficult and it’s actually very fascinating. Some assignments are a bit tedious, others are more fun. The book has several interactive videos and simulations that are very helpful. However, bear in mind that there is a lot of memorization involved. Some things can be “learned” by concept, but others just need to be memorized. For that, I recommend you look at “the psych files” (it’s a website with helpful podcasts).
Does anybody know which AP classes at Connections Academy use the FLVS curriculum? I read that they sometimes use Aventa instead. I want to take AP Stats, AP Comp Sci, AP Lang, and maybe AP Bio, so I’d really like to know.
@neptuna I’m currently taking AP Bio through Connections and it uses the FLVS curriculum.
How is AP Calculus BC on FLVS? Does it teach you the basic needs you need to get a 5 on the exam?
What about AP Stats since it has been revamped?
Thanks!
@DoctorMD I feel like FLVS teaches you TOO much and that’s a good thing. I took AB and BC for instance on FLVS. I got a 5 on AB but a 4 on BC because I neglected to review the AB stuff as much as I should have since I felt overconfident that I needed to review. The class (BC) had a lot of errors in the workings for problems so beware.
@Philomath123 Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
Yeah I agree, learning “too” much is a good thing.
I am a current junior and want to boost my gpa by taking an AP on flvs over the upcoming summer (before my senior year) to help improve my chances for early action applications next fall, since for EA the 1st semester senior year grades will probably not be included. Does anyone know if there’s any way to make the online AP grades show up on my transcript in the fall if I complete the whole course in the summer? I know that normally you have to wait until the exam in May but that would defeat the purpose of taking the class for me.
@2blessed2b I know someone who had the ap credit appear on her transcript a few months before the ap exam. If won’t hurt; maybe your school will do the same thing like her’s did.
