Official FLVS AP Thread

I noticed that here were very few reviews regarding AP Lang on FLVS. I think this thread might be dead but if anyone is interested I would be more than happy to answer any questions about AP Lang on FLVS or FLVS in general.

@Collegguy123 You’re a life saver. I’ll be taking 4 or 5 AP classes next year, so I need to know how time consuming AP Lang is on FLVS. Approximately how many essays do you think you had to write? On a regular day, how many hours did you spend on AP Lang? I’m taking APUSH right now and I sometimes struggle to keep up, so if you’ve taken APUSH through FLVS, how would you say AP Lang compares?

Compared to the typical classroom, this class is much less time consuming. At my old school, so much time was waisted with the teacher ranting about a book or participating in useless discussion. I am not too far in the course but it seems like there are about 3 writing assignments a week. However, a good amount are not essays, rather they are single paragraph responses or something of that nature. I am in the same boat with you in that I am taking a lot of AP Classes next year. So, I began the class this year, hoping to take a good chunk out of it now while my schedule is a little more free. As for APUSH, I have not taken the class through FLVS but I am interested in doing so. Could you please elaborate on it a little bit.

Does anyone know anything about AP Lit?

Does anyone have any recent experience with AP Bio? I’m taking it next year and I want to know the rigor and the kinds of assignments you take.

@Collegguy123 Could you expand on the Rigor of AP lang? Was it graded hard/ hard to get an A in?

hey how do you know what number to put next to the v when trying to access an Ap course? @adolescentnerd

@sundaybrunch1 It seems that my teacher does not grade my papers and essays very hard. I don’t know if she is an easy grader, likes my style (she has commented on how much she likes my style and voice plenty of times) or a culmination of both. I am not going to sugar coat it, it’s a decent amount of work (nothing compared to AP Chem or Clac BC but significantly more than honors English 10) . However, it’s not just essays, we write news paper articles and do a lot of creative projects which makes the class much more enjoyable. I am getting a 98.82% in the class, so I wouldn’t say its that hard to get an A (Also anything over 90% is considered an A and you can often re submit essays if your not pleased with your original score). However, the grades are not inflated as I got a 4 on my last practice test, and I am only 46% done with the class. I highly highly recommend this class, and my teacher is awesome which is a huge plus.

do you think if someone has no previous experience in computer science should take their ap computer science a; would it be lots of work? i’m taking ap lit, cal bc, and bio next year

bump… @ArtistNatureLove I started ap comp sci 2 weeks ago and the class is great. You’ll learn a lot and you really don’t need that much prior experience. The class is easy, but time consuming. I’d recommend starting now so you can finish by Feb or March next year and use the remaining time for exam prep. Good luck on your upcoming ap courses

Anyone taking Bio, Stats, or Micro? I would appreciate tips about the classes and the exams

I’m taking AP Macroeconomics through FLVS starting July 18. Macro is so much better than Micro imo.

@ArtistNatureLove Just finished AP Computer Science A through FLVS a few weeks ago. The class is really easy. Some of the assignments are challenging but a lot of fun. However, the lessons are outdated from 2008, and the directions to some assignments in Segment 2 could be really confusing and frustrating to understand. eimacs will be your main source toward understanding the material. You should be finished with the contents by late March. The tests in the course are timed to an hour and a half, but there are so few questions and they’re so easy that you should have no problem doing them.

In April, you should go to eimacs and take practice tests. Those will be your main source of free practice material. Review the material through eimacs then take at least 3 practice exams. These are very accurate to the AP exam and are timed as well although you can cheat the timer by “taking a break” and screenshooting the questions. I believe there are 7 exams total for you to take.

In terms of content, the only thing that eimacs and FLVS did a poor job at explaining would be mutable variables and the difference between instant, static, and local variables / objects / methods. If you need help on anything, just come to me. I have all the assignments saved on my computer, and I have received an A on almost every assignment.

If you are ever confused about an assignment throughout the year, just contact me. I have all the assignments in order of the Module and the Lesson. And I would more than happy to clear up confusions, because there were times when I wish I had some help!

Next year I’m taking AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Lang, and AP Computer Science with Connections Academy, which uses the FLVS curriculum. I would love to get a head start, so would anyone on here who still has access to any of these courses be willing to take screenshots of the first few lessons? Message me if so. Thanks!

I realize the question I am about to ask is a stretch but is anyone from a New York City public school taking an AP class online from FLVS? If so, will the class go on your transcript? and how will the class go on your transcript? Thanks

@ObitoSigma thank you so much! So do you recommend me to use FLVS? How did you do on the AP after taking FLVS course? Is it a guaranteed 5? If not, what extra work should I do?

@Hidd3nBlad3s thank you very much for the advice? How is the course formatted? Videos or purely reading?

@ArtistNatureLove It’s purely reading. It starts off with a lesson, a lab activity, then an assignment. It’s pretty straightforward.

@ArtistNatureLove Definitely. The class is a really easy A. Unless you’re bad at mathematics, you would have to not care in the class to not get an A. I was inactive for 3 months because I got frustrated with the Module 14 assignments until I finally came up about two months before the AP exam. I didn’t take too many practice exams due to rushed time to prepare, but I would say that I did really well on the multiple choice. And even though I didn’t answer half of the free response (I’m not kidding), I still managed to get a 4 on the AP Exam! With a bit more practice and a bit of luck on the free response, I’m sure that no one should have a problem getting a 5!

As I said, take as many eimacs practice exams as possible. And if you want, take practice free response from previous years to for added practice. And trust me, a review book really isn’t necessary if you understand the concepts. The exam is basically just recognizing how the code functions or how it should function.

@Hidd3nBlad3s @ObitoSigma thank you guys very much for the info. I’ll probably do it next year.
