Official FLVS AP Thread

Hey there, has anyone taken AP Lang through FLVS? I’m trying to choose between taking it at my school or online for my senior year. It would be helpful to get some insight about the workload, intensity, tediousness, helpfulness (in terms of AP exam prep), and if an A is achievable (I would rather keep my 4.0). Thank you guys in advance!

Anyone have any experience taking AP Psych through FLVS? I’m considering taking it, but don’t know how easy/hard it is.

AP Psych and AP Macro are probably the easiest classes on FLVS, and both prepare you pretty well for the exam too! I took AP Psychology last year, and got an easy A in the class, and a 5 on the exam. As long as you put a decent amount of effort into the journals, I’m sure you’ll do fine.

@87thOrange can you tell me your experience with Ap macro? Im considering taking it instead of economics at school but I dont want the class to ruin my GPA.

Hey. I’m currently a sophomore in high school. I’m taking 5 AP classes right now 3 of them on flvs. Flvs ones are Macro, micro and government and politics. I’m thinking of taking 3 more during the summer and was wondering if anyone could tell me about AP bio and AP US history on flvs and what courses you would recommend I could finish before the end of the summer. I’ve already taken psych and I’m taking the flvs courses I listed above plus AP stats and physics 1 at my school. I definitely plan of taking AP CS on flvs. Thanks.

I took Psych and Macro through FLVS and got a 5 and 4 on the AP exams, respectively. The courses were easy enough and covered topics on the test thoroughly–although I did use outside sources (5 Steps to a Five prep books.) PM me if you have any questions about macro or psych! @batman0309 @msherondale

I took half of AP Lang and Human Geo online two years ago for Geo and last year for Lang (i switched schools, so was ahead and didn’t want to lose my gain in each subject). Both were super easy. Highly recommended.

So, I really want to take AP Bio but the school that I got to doesn’t offer the course l. Therefore, I thought I would try it through FLVS, do any of you recommend me taking it or is it too challenging? Does it prepare you for the exam? Is it hard to get an A in the class?

I’ve done a few flvs classes so I’ll add some reviews.

AP Environmental Science: This class was recently UPDATED. If you’ve read a lot of complaints about the class here, a lot of them have been fixed. I’ve found the quizzes and assignments to be easy. The assignments are just boring because they do not help too much, but you can rush through them and get a 100 on them. This was actually one of my favorite classes. Tips: Module 1 does not matter that much. It’s mainly background info and it’s barely on the exam. KNOW CHEMISTRY. There were chemical formulas on the MC portion of the ap exam and I didn’t really know it too well. The math on the frqs was really easy this year. I probably got a 5 on the exam and the course was great preparation. I did not use a review book because I found that the Princeton review just said everything taught in the course. The lessons are not too bad now and a lot of it is helpful. You’ll usually be able to use your judgement to see what is worthless information( soil orders- what the heck? It’s not on the test).

APUSH: I did the class over the summer so I forgot a lot of the stuff over the school year before the exam. I reviewed for about a week, but I was studying for multiple classes. The textbook is awfully boring to read, but you HAVE to read it. I actually read the textbook and ignored the course lessons because I found the course lessons to be awfully boring and have nothing helpful. I thought the class was interesting. Reading the Princeton book along with the course helps. I read the princeton before the exam and I think I got a 5 on the exam. The assignments are easy and it’s great preparation. All of the assignments are either short answer questions, MC, and a couple of essays.

AP Lit: My least favorite class I’ve ever taken. I just hate English. I’ve been in the class over a year and my teacher barely cares that I’m moving at such a slow pace. I can never find the motivation to finish the class because all of the assignments are so boring and there are so many!( like 160). Anyways, I went into the exam not really knowing what to expect but I feel like my essays were pretty good and I probably either got a 3 or a 4.

AP Gov: Took this last year and got a 5 on the exam. However, the course sucked and it had awful preparation. The textbook is the worst thing I’ve ever had to read. The quizzes are so specific and timed so you barely have enough time to look up answers. The final exam was as specific as the quizzes and I was happy just to get a 73% on the multiple choice because it was so difficult. This AP Exam is so much easier than the tests, to the point where the tests in the course are actually meaningless. I got a 5 on this exam thanks to the Princeton Review book.

Other classes I did but in school:
APHUG- We had an awful teacher and the class was boring. I did not study that much for the exam because I was focusing on AP Gov and I got a 5 on the exam, surprisingly. The MC was very hard, but the frqs were easy.

AP Psych- Easiest AP class I’ve taken. It’s vocab based, not concept based. The exam felt way too easy and the only thing you need to do to get a 5 is read the Princeton review book. I definitely got a 5 on this test. Also, the class was very interesting. The only thing I used the textbook for was to study neurotransmitters and the stages of development(piaget, kohberg, etc).

Good luck to everyone! Overall, I definitely recommend APES and APUSH!

I finished FLVS’s AP Macro exam in a little more than 2 months (while taking 7 other APs at the same time). Reviewing for the exam is really easy because there is so little content. I could sum up the entire course in just a couple sheets of paper front and back. Most of the course is just graphs and relationships. FLVS loved using acronyms like TRIBE (Demand shifts) or ROTTEN (Supply Shifts) or RAPP (AS shifts) or CHIPP (Phillips Curve; NRU shifts) which makes understanding long lists of effects very easy. I don’t think there was any material on exams that was not covered in the lessons or assignments. There is a lot of graphics and interactive exercises (like matching or fill-in-the-blank) which make the content even more comprehensible. The only supplemental material you really need is ACDCLeadership and practice exams in order to get a guaranteed 4 or 5. Highly recommended!!

So, I really want to take AP Bio but the school that I got to doesn’t offer the course l. Therefore, I thought I would try it through FLVS, do any of you recommend me taking it or is it too challenging? Does it prepare you for the exam? Is it hard to get an A in the class?

If you are in Florida you also have the option of taking a class through Pasco eSchool. All the AP classes use educator like FLVS, and you can take the AP exam locally you don’t have to travel to Pasco county.

Can anyone share links to FLVS AP classes live lesson schedules?
I was wanting to find out if AP Macroeconomics had live lessens in the summer.

do NOT take AP Bio online…worst decision you will ever make. The concepts are way too difficult just by reading a text book…you will end up wanting to pull your hairs out, trust me.

My child is considering taking AP Human Geography online through FLVS and have a few questions before we register.

  1. Is it possible to finish this class by April?
  2. Do you need to take AP test to get full credit for this class?
  3. Does school issue transcript as soon as you finish this course?

I really hope somebody can answer my questions.

  1. Yes it should be possible. It's an easy course.
  2. For high school credits, no. For college credits, yes. That also depends on the college.
  3. Yes, at least thats what my school did.

Thanks for your response.

  1. Definitely doable as long as you start by August/September. FLVS has stricter deadlines with their AP courses. They want the kids finished by mid-April so there is time to study for the exam.
  2. In order to get the AP credit on your FLVS transcript you MUST take the AP exam. Otherwise it will be listed as an "honors" course. They don't issue the grade until they know the child went to the exam-the course is placed in "pending exam" status once all the assignments are done. I know you can take. AP clases elsewhere and still call them AP but FLVS insists you must take exam for AP class credit on transcript. The exam is also what gets you the possible college credit.
  3. See above Also, once the exam is completed, the teacher will issue grade and it will show up on your completed courses/unofficial transcript you can print yourself. Official transcript must be ordered.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Thanks, Counselinggirl! I just want to clarify my child is planning to take this class because AP credit is needed.

I know AP exam is in May and test result will be out in July. Does it mean final grade for this class will not be released until May? My child school ends by May, and we needs this final grade by the end of April.
Is this possible?

No, the grade will be issued the day she sits for the exam (or the next day depending on the teacher). My daughter came home from exam and text teacher she took it and told her it went well and then the teacher officially issued her grade later that night…Also, FLVS gives you a form to fill out to take to your local school to register for the exam and I emailed teacher who I gave the form to and that they had registered daughter for future exam in May–that all took place in February. Then they take the exam and grade will be issued…

Thanks again!
