So I just want to take a minute to laugh at my situation

I am a first-year sophomore at the “honors” program at Pittsburgh, applying for sophomore standing at SFS. I was deferred early action then denied regular decision this past year. I am transferring to study international affairs with a focus in international development, for the record. I applied to UNC-CH, Emory, and Georgetown and was admitted to the former two. Because of deadlines, I put down a deposit at Emory. I emailed my admissions counselor in light of this fact, and she told me that I was “tentatively accepted or at the least waitlisted.” Here is agonizing part, however. I had foot surgery last week, and so cannot walk for the next month. Meanwhile, I have to decide whether I want to go to Georgetown or Emory with incomplete information, as this is all i can do. If you have any insight on this decision, please PM me.

Key word is tentatively. Also, I’m a little worried about fitting in. I’m a middle-class southern Jew from North Carolina who has to work his way through college. I here the on-campus food isnt that great, and off-campus is maaadd expensive. Finally, I’m very active in my extra-curricular organizations, and Georgetown doesn’t seem to be that engaged in them. Any insight into these concerns would be amazing

What reasons in particular are motivating you to transfer from Emory to
Georgetown? Is it more of an upside to Georgetown or a downside to Emory?

honestly, the food isnt that bad. i ate at leo’s a lot of times when i visited my friends. i would be more worried about gaining weight. haha also, i visited when they had their activity fair. there are so many activities at georgetown so i’m sure you can find a few organizations that you will fit into.

Heads up: the Georgetown acceptance letter is tiny. I thought I was denied at first. And it says there were over 2000 applicants for only 160 spaces. Also, the deposit is $900!

Keep in mind, this is only tentative. And I had to know because I had to have a deposit into Emory by April 22nd because i had to withdraw my housing deposit at pitt before a certain deadline…its a long story. I hope against hope that they take spring semester grades into account, because they arrived there today

I’m confused… so you haven’t send all your info to Emory and Georgetown, but still got accepted to Emory?? I’d just send the remaining info to Georgetown as soon as you can.

Hey everyone. This thread is really helpful.

I’m attending Maryland 4-year next year and I’d like to transfer for my sophomore year. Can you guys tell me what kinda grades and ec I need to be competitive in transferring? who are the best people to get recommendations from and whats the best way to ask for them?? Thank in advance!

Let me clear this up. I got everthing in by February 1st for Emory, knowing that I needed an answer by April 15th so I could withdraw my housing deposit from my present institution. I emailed Georgetown once i heard back from Emory as i had to put down a deposit at Emory, and they said they would give me a tentative decision about whethr i should still consider the university. They told me i will be tentatively accepted or at the least waitlisted. But that is still a range of responses.
