Official Georgetown University Transfer Thread 2011

ectransfer2011,

I wasn’t thinking about it in terms of transfer waitlist vs freshman waitlist; Georgetown has a strict number of students it is allowed to enroll (because of DC regulations). So, the way I was looking at it is that because 20-30 people are over-enrolled, they could possibly admit 20-30 less people during transfer admissions in order to remain under whatever regulations they have to follow. It’s not unusual at all for freshman enrollment to affect transfer admissions. Just a theory.

^ Sorry, I think I misinterpreted your earlier post. That makes sense and would really suck if the number of transfers got cut.

god.
damn.
it.

If it calms your nerves at all, an admission officer said they hadn’t even made a decision on my file yet-- meaning that there are some files they haven’t even gotten to yet. I really don’t think the freshman wait list will affect us that much. If our credentials are better, then they’ll accept us. That’s how I choose to see it.

^I think you’re definitely right. I also think you have a great shot of getting in, so don’t let the waitlist thing affect you until you are waitlited–if that even happens.

Hopes, can you let me know what they say after you call tomorrow? Thanks

^Yeah, sure. I’ll ask whether the unexpected increase in enrolling freshman will affect us transfers. Also, I’ll ask what exactly should we address in a letter to the adcom if we’re waitlisted, and how long should that letter be. If you have anything else you’d like to know, feel free to tell me.

^One quick thing: When will we receive our official waitlist letter? Thanks

^No problem. I’ll be sure to ask these questions and post my findings on this thread.

I would honestly be surprised if freshman overenrollment didn’t affect transfer numbers. Look at Duke, they overenrolled for the Class of 2014 and as a result their transfer numbers went from about 80 to 16 this year.

GREAT NEWS!!! WOW!!!GREAT NEWS!!! I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance!

Just wanted to say hi and I’m following this thread too. I’m a transfer student and have heard nothing back yet…

I’m going a little crazy…

I just talked to an admissions officer and… I GOT ACCEPTED!!! yaaaaay!

Just got the e-mail a few minutes ago  I was accepted. Just no word on financial aid yet…

@realtransfer me too!!! what is your major???

@slynch26 Government :)

@Realtransfers – Did you find out because you requested an early read? Or did you just get the acceptance normally? I applied to the college too and haven’t heard anything… but then again my interview was the last week of April. Ahh I’m getting so anxious!

@real transfer, me too!!! what year are you?

@ectransfer, I requested an early read for next week, but they told me today via email

@ectransfer2011 I was doing a University of Miami survey while waiting for 5pm to roll around so I could check Columbia’s decision, and when I submitted the survey I got an e-mail. Thinking it was just one of those “Thank you for participating in our survey” e-mails, I open my mail and see an e-mail from Georgetown titled “Decision Letter.”

And yeah, that’s how it happened. :)

@slynch26 Junior, I’m assuming, since I just finished my second (and last) year at a community college.

hey guys. been following the thread but i haven’t really created an account until now. received a decision letter from the college less than an hour ago…I got in! i didn’t request an early read for those wondering
