Official Georgia Tech 2013-2014 EA Discussion Thread

No haha. Actually it’s my safety
I’ve applied to a few ivies and top-notch schools. But alas those schools are crapshoots so who knows! We’ll see.

@Vesper0723
Good luck to you! You’re an amazing applicant, so I think you can at least get into a few those top schools.
Are you going to major in engineering? If so, I think GT is already a top-notch school.

@Shirleyxxy
Georgia Tech is a great school I know! (It’s just relatively “safe” compared to the other schools I applied to.)
I’m gonna major in BME, so yeah, I feel really lucky to get in. The campus is gorgeous, the program is top ranked and the people are really nice.

What does the rejection letter say? Anyone mind sharing?

@Vesper0723
yeah, G Tech is amazing for BME. I assume you also applied to JHU? I researched this major a lot because I also want to major in BME, but now I just torn between biochem and BME. I prefer science, but engineering seems a better future career. Anyway, I guess I have to figure that out in college.

@May2013SAT, have fun looking at it! Haha.

"******,
Thank you for your application to the Georgia Institute of Technology. Due to the large number of applications from highly qualified students, we are unable to offer you admission to the incoming freshman class.

We regret having to deny admission to students who are considering Georgia Tech and work to make sure each application is comprehensively reviewed. Because of the competitive pool of applicants, we carefully evaluate the credentials of each student on an individual and comparative basis to ensure a thorough process.

Again, we appreciate your interest in Georgia Tech and wish you success in the future."

I applied ED and was rejected by jhu so…It’s probably because of the essay. I think the first version of my common essay is not thoughtful or positive enough in hindsight.

btw I think there’s a lot of differences between biochem and BME. I mean if you prefer a chemistry-orientated major you should definitely go for biochem.
BME at its core is engineering. There’ll be a lot of advanced math/physics courses and the curriculum is challenging generally. So if you’re only concerned about the “engineering seems a better future career” thing don’t choose BME. Just choose whichever you love!
And well, you don’t have to make a decision now anyway. I think most colleges allow students to declare major in sophomore year. You still get a year to figure out. Best of luck!

yeah, I thought so too, so I applied as a biochem major. I’m sure I’ll figure out in college what I really want.
Best of luck to you too!

Thanks! (10 char)

Accepted! Sat: 2210 SAT II math: 770 physics: 630 GPA: 4.4 (weighted). I’m pretty sure GT is my top choice but I’m not 100%. should I wait to enroll? I read somewhere that the earlier you turn in your deposits, the sooner you can choose housing and other stuff.

oh and I’m from Washington DC! (well technically Virginia, but just right outside DC)

Accepted!!! Major: Mechanical engg
ACT:34 E, 33 M
Decent ECs
Got straight A’s in all my subjects.

Congratulations to everyone who got in !!!

Accepted!

33 ACT
2010 SAT
Weighted GPA: 4.75
Unweighted GPA: 3.9
Class Rank: Top 2%

Good luck to everyone else! Great to be part of GA Tech Class of 2018! GO JACKETS! Let’s change the world!!

EDIT: Also, out-of-state.

Well, I really need to get off this thread and get some sleep… It’s 4:03 am in my country lol
Congrats again everyone!

Can someone tell me why I got deferred?
GPA: 4.3 (w)
SAT: 2040
Executive of FIRST robotics, other various clubs, summer research.
My Essay was OK and supplemental was awesome and very specific.
Maybe the rec??

Hi can someone help clarify something for me?

I’ve been accepted to Georgia Tech (yay!) but I applied as a computer science major. Does anyone know if being accepted automatically means you have been accepted as a CS major also, or just as an undergrad?

Thanks so much!

Also, stats:
SAT 2170 (superscore 2220) (M 770 CR 760 W 690)
GPA 3.71 unweighted
Class rank weighted is 85/463 (around 18th percentile)
FIRST Robotics Junior and Senior year (Executive Officer)
Internship at software startup
Some other micellaneous EC’s (piano, chinese school, tutoring, senior class council)
8 AP classes by the end of senior yr
Decent essays and supplements
Emphasized focus on CS/physics/engineering in senior year, i made a point to really demonstrate my passion for computer science and engineering in my application to make up for my GPA

Also a note, I’m a girl… which I understand helps a lot at Georgia Tech even though its kind of annoyingly unfair advantage. just as part of my stats

Everyone who is accepted is accepted into the major they listed or any other potential major at tech.

Congrats to everyone who got in! Its a waiting game from now on boys and girls. Still happy about GT though.
Accepted:Chem Engineering
SAT: 2350 (800 math 800 writing 750 English)
ACT: 36
2 Varsity Sports, Some clubs, decent recs, good essay, OOS applicant

@Stilltay: How easy is it to change your major, though? Say I got into Computer Science (yay) but might consider transferring to Computer Engineering.

congrats to all you fellow acceptees:) is it true that it’s very difficult for out of state students to get scholarships? would it still be worth it to attend as an OOS? how’s the campus safety–atlanta seems like a pretty crime-ridden area :0 hoping to visit also, so any tips? thanks:D
