@Nihilus, I know it was a few pages back, but same. I have a 36 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, and I’m ranked 1/155. Didn’t get semi-finalist. Like you said, Nihilus, this almost certainly takes GTech off the table for me unless I get the Provost (I’m not going to hold my breath if I didn’t even make semi-finalist).

Yes, if you applied early action, then you were automatically considered for the President’s Scholars, and emails were sent today at 5:00 Eastern Time to the email address on file with your GT application. The emails were to be sent to all EA applicants and were to notify them either way about semifinalist status.

Thxs yakker. well still no email here. Hopefully it means i got it haha

Maybe you didn’t read correctly rgosula and Nihilus… when I meant getting presidential I meant exactly that… getting the presidential scholarship… that’s only 50 students if I remember correct. Now, pardon me on my statistics, 50/5000, gee wiz, thats 1%. That’s certainly harder than HYPS… if that constitutes as facts.

Sorry if I came across as rude, Nihilus.

Good luck; I hope you did get semi. I’d say check your junk mail for today’s message, but I am assuming you did receive an email saying you were accepted to GT last week, so the email shouldn’t be the problem. If you haven’t received it by now, you might want to call admissions or financial aid folks tomorrow.

I got semi finalist as well

Sounds like all 5,000 early admits had stats that would put them in the semifinalist ballpark. So, there isn’t much to be learned at this point just to look at those. I’m guessing that for the people chosen as semifinalists, their stats were not the best parts of their applications.

^ Last year one of the kids at DS’s school was a semi finalist. While I didn’t expect DS to be one I was sort of surprised that kid was and and another kid wasn’t who had a higher GPA,test scores,NMF… My point being they are obviously looking other parts of the applications besides just the GPA and scores.

I’m not a semifinalist as well. I have good test scores and I’m 1/513, 4.0 UW, 4.5 W:(
Congratulations to all semifinalists though!
Did anyone hear about the Provust’s scholarship yet?
They should be coming out in Jan…

Does anybody know if the one page resume they request is single sided or if it can be double sided.

Since you have to email it in PDF, I think they meant one page in computer form so single sided I guess. I’m just making the font smaller so I can fit more haha.

I’m going to go ahead and post that I was a little surprised that I was deferred EA.

Some basic Stats: Unweighted GPA, 3.69, weighted (honors and AP = 1 more point), 4.33, The old Georgia Tech way It would have been right around a 4.0.

ACT: 34, English 33, Math 35.

By the time I graduate I will have taken 10 APs, including DP AP Bio, physics B, AP BC Calc,a and I am currently taking multivariable calculus.

I’m the captain of a non-school sponsored team, I had an internship over the summer for the month, I thought I had a pretty good essay, and I got my recs from my math teacher who has taught me two years.

I really don’t know what to think…I’d ask for people to chance me but I don’t think it will really help. I should mention I am OOS.

magnezin your ACT score is really good! its probs your gpa that put you at a slight disadvantage…

magnezin,

Your ACT score is awesome; your GPA is good, too, but probably not quite as high as a big number of the applicants who got in and a lot who did not. You don’t state how long your leadership position on the team has lasted, or much about other ECs, so it’s hard to tell, but that may have held you back a bit. While all of this really does look great (kudos to you!), remember the painful reality that A LOT of very qualified applicants with amazing stats and experiences just like you applied, and Georgia Tech limited itself to selecting around 5000 out of nearly 13000. At some point, if everyone’s stats are so high caliber and the school can’t accept everyone of them, distinguishing between those who had high stats and got in from those with high stats who did not becomes very difficult. At some point, it starts to look a little arbitrary because, with a limit of 5000, a lot of folks just can’t be accepted no matter how much like the others their stats are. You’ve got great stats and experience, so you have not only an excellent chance RD, but you also have excellent chances at other excellent institutions if you applied. Good luck.

@IndianChica22 it was extremely difficult for out of state kids to make it this year. The acceptance rate went from 55-40% yet for instate kids it stayed the same. What does that mean? It got extrmely harder for OOS kids. Dont feel too bad

when will i hear if i have received any scholarship if i am accepted?

Quantumpyzeeks-EA accepted students usually here between the next two weeks and April depending on the scholarship. I don’t know the answer for RD students but I imagine it is sometime afterwards. There are not a ton of merit scholarships at Tech so keep that in mind.

@ socoeng. The Number of instate acceptances stayed the same, not necessarily the rate. Tech was already on the radar of most instate kids and the common app likely didn’t add too many more in state kids. My guess is that tech received a higher number of OOS apps due to the common app, decreasing their likelihood of acceptance. By that measure it was harder for them, not necessarily a new bias against them.

Like IndianChica22, My S is a 1/491, 3.98UW, 4.45W with 2120 SAT and 32 ACT did not make semifinalist. Was accepted. When does the Provost Scholarship announcement come out?

@pittkrew

Emails for Provost went out today.
