Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

“Anyway, that’s a really cool day: 12/13/14!”

Except that it’s not 2014 yet.

Got a contact for an interview today. The interviewer’s coming to my campus (I go to a boarding school), and he lives in a small town near-by. I’m pretty psyched about this. And as far as I know, the school sent out the result on 13th through email and on 15th through mail. I hope it’s gonna be the same this year, so I can give my parents great news for their anniversary.

Oh does the fact that I got an interview mean that Harvard read my common app + essays? Or do they just go over the numbers (test scores and transcript) and assign an interviewer? Thanks!

^I don’t know if it means anything at all; I got an interview contact almost immediately after submitting my application, and my interviewer wasn’t given any info about me in advance, even my GPA or SAT score.

^ I know that the interviewer aren’t given any info about the grade or score. That’s even so if the admission office know the info… It’s not that the interviewer didn’t get the information because admission office didn’t know the info, but it’s just confidential that way… It’s been awhile since I submitted the application, and I heard the regional office send the apps that they didn’t reject to the main committee after Thanksgiving on CC, but well, it’s not all that credible… So I was just wondering if there is anyone who might know what’s going on… Thanks anyways.

hum2014: contact info is sent to area coordinators immediately. The status of what in your file was read or not had and has no bearing on that. Often, the stats of applicants **accompany **the contact info which is given to interviewers. Harvard is actually rather unusual in that fact. My ivy alma mater gives us no stats whatsoever.

@SultanFJ I’m also from Tulsa, OK and I had my interview on November 1st. The alumni pool here isn’t as big as it is for other schools (I know it’s sizable for Princeton), so not everyone gets one. I submitted my app fairly early (September 10th) so I got one.

Nice. Good to talk to a fellow Tulsan. I actually did get my interview. I had it Friday. What high school do you go to? I go to Union. Most of the ambitious kids from my school have eyes on the west coast. Stanford and the UC’s.

@T26E4

Interestingly, my interviewer today had completely NO knowledge of me or any of my grades/test scores. I guess it’s different everywhere you go!

But my interview went okay; I think he enjoyed talking to me but I was a bit scattered in my “ideas” (he was really into talking about plans for the future and global conflicts).

I’m actually the only person at my school applying SCEA to Harvard. Everyone else is looking at Yale/Princeton. How did the interview go?

Harvard interviewers don’t have access to test scores or any specifics about applicants because on the whole they are alumni and it would be a lack of confidentiality for them to know personal information. Make sure if you haven’t had an interview yet to bring a resume with you so that they have information about you.

@dontbethatkid it went pretty well. It was pretty much a long naturally flowing conversation. I’m guessing we probably had the same interviewer. Loveless? If you don’t mind me asking, what are your academics? I’d just like to compare. Since we both have already applied. 35 on act. 4.0 unweighted gpa. Class rank 3 out of 1045. National merit semi finalist.

Yeah, as far as I knew my interviewer had no info.

Hey guys, my Guidance counselor received a comment from the admissions office while they were calling about my missing transcript. Whoever they talked to said I was a very strong applicant. Does this actually mean anything, like do you think they have already read my file???

@SultanFJ I actually had my interview. As far as academics, my ACT is 33, SAT is 2210. My unweighted GPA is 3.98 (6/286) and weighted its 4.43 (9/286). I’m also an IB Diplomma Candidate (taking 8 IB classes instead of 6) and I’ve taken some AP tests just with the IB class.

dbtk: you’re divulging quite a bit of personal information. YOu should check that, you know.

Lol, could we not turn this into a thread of trying to size each other up by comparing stats?

that’s going to stress me out even more than i already am lol

That’s probably for the best. Sorry, guys.

Lol, don’t worry about it. At least you’re chill about it.

Does anyone know WHEN they release decision emails? Morning, afternoon, night? Midnight??! In waves? I ask because if it is Friday the 13th, I’ll be at school and I can’t check my Gmail account there, my school internet has Gmail blocked… I may redirect my email that day, who knows! Has anyone actually called the office to find out what day it is that they will release decisions?
