Read back a few pages, we were discussing the likelihood of December 12

I have to agree with that fluctuating feeling of “I’m a prime candidate for Harvard” and “there’s no chance in hell I’ll get in”. All we can do is wait. Best of luck to all you guys!

@rokr32 It’s BY 15th, not ON 15th. There’s a huge difference btw them, if know English, haha. They said by 15th last year but sent out decisions via email on 13th (Thursday) last year. And it was also Thursday the year before last year. So people are thinking the decision will be sent 12th (Thursday) or 13th like last year. Do you seriously think people are discussing that because they haven’t read that? We are all prepared, and we all saw that in October… Our discussion is a little bit more advanced than that.

^ Lulz, no need to be an *******.

do they send attachments with emails for acceptances??? cause if i see that there’s no attachments when i get the email i might start crying right away…

How many people do you guys think will be accepted in this years round of SCEA? Last year there were 895. Harvard did not release the number of applicants yet like they have done in the past, but judging by Princeton, Yale, and other Ives, Harvard’s number of SCEA applicants will rise slightly: probably to about 5000 applicants this year. So to keep consistent with last year, they should accept some where around 935 applicants in Early. Of course about 200-260 of them will be recruited athletes, another 200-300 for URM and 200 for Legacies. That leaves about 300 spots left over! Maybe 150-200 open spots for females and males each.

^I would answer your question but I think you already did
But yeah, those numbers make sense…and seem depressingly low…

I highly doubt that H needs to allot 200-300 SCEA spots to URMs (a quarter to a third of all SCEA accepts???). Harvard sits on the pinnacle. They will choose the most coveted applicants (some of whom will be URMs) and target them with SCEA acceptance.

Here is an article from the Harvard Crimson last spring. Last years class encompassed 25.7% minority acceptances with out Asians (which represented another 20% of the acceptances). So yes I do think that a 1/4th to 1/3rd of acceptances could be URM.

hey guys this is probably a weird question but i’m really worried and would appreciate if anyone could give me some insight?:

under the “disciplinary history” section of my counselor’s report she apparently checked “school policy prevents me from responding”, since i go to a cray-competitive magnet school where parents would FLIP if their darling babies got so much as a detention on their transcripts.

i’ve gotten maybe…2 “referrals” over all of high school for showing up five min. late to class, nothing serious. trouble is, do you think harvard will look at what my counselor checked off and assume i’m hiding something but she doesn’t want to say it outright? i know even the slightest thing can knock a person out in the EA round -____- i asked her if i could email harvard to explain and she was really against it, almost seemed offended haha. this is the first time we’ve bumped heads, and i don’t know what to do D: Thoughts?

^You really should have listed those disciplinary infractions under “additional info” in the Common App… But, since it’s too late now, I’d recommend you email the admissions office.

My son is so relaxed; he does not even talk about finding out about his acceptance. I am more anxious than he is. I will have to remind him to check his email on the 12th or 13th or he would probably find out in the mail. He said that he will get into a great school no matter what. I wish I could be more like him…focused but relaxed.

@oldgrad92, I wish I could be more like your son. I am freaking out here.

Haha me too I wish I was like your son!

@Thebeatlestoday: Why? Well I’m not from the US and I’m not familiar with your system but being 5 minutes late isn’t anything serious imo!

^No, don’t worry, it’s not a big deal here, either (at least not as my school). But from what it sounds like, the counselor checked off the box for disciplinary action but didn’t specify what it was, so if the applicant doesn’t clarify, the admissions committee will think something more serious than a 5-minute tardy occurred.

It isn’t a big deal at most schools in the States. I don’t think I’ve been on time to most of my classes this year, and my teachers don’t care. Although, there is a rumor going around that the faculty is being lenient with the seniors this year. That could be a part of it.

@oldgrad92: I’m feeling a bit like your son. I panicked for a bit, and I’ve sort of peaked beyond the “OMG I CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE” summit.=P Relaxing has done wonders for me =)

Oh my word, I check this thread and the Harvard forum every single day. It’s getting to be a problem.

On the decision date: I haven’t received any official word yet (obviously), but I have a nagging feeling about the 12th. Last year, the date was the 13th, which was a Thursday. Two years ago, one of my friend’s sister got in, and she found out on the 15th (when you factor in the leap year, the 15th was a Thursday in 2011). I think it’s going to be the 12th.

collegeluva101: I know right? I have become obsessed with this forum I think I have to leave and don’t come back until the decision date. It’s driving me crazy

if i get rejected, im not sure how to react. T_T ill probably tear but then realize theres mit, yale, etc… lol
