Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

i called yesterday to confirm, it’s friday the 13th

ecstatia - I thought the EA decisions are not complete until sometimes mid or late next week. They actually said EA decisions are done ? Can you confirm or please post the email or pm me . I am trying to figure out if I should send a correction to my application. Thanks

your summer"correction" is extremely extremely minor. i wouldn’t spend another second worrying about it. It’s not unusual that all decisions are made at this point and final confirmations are being made and Fin Aid is working furiously. You’re way overthinking things. You well likely may be rejected but it won’t be because you mislabelled a 10th grade summer activity as an 11th grade one.

Wait, just to confirm, was it mandatory to submit the CSS Profile already if we checked Yes for aid? My situation is a bit unique so I decided to hold off on completing the CSS Profile until later on. Will this have any impact whatsoever on my admissions decision (that is, the fact that I’ve not submitted the profile but checked Yes for aid). On my portal it says all documents have been received, so…

@ecstatia Thanks for posting this. I am in a similar situation except with research rather than poetry - I got lots of awards for one work and even wrote my common app essay about it but then ended up submitting a different paper for review. Seems like it’s too late add anything now though though, so I guess I’ll just submit the original paper if deferred.

@ckfy63a, I believe the CSS Profile for SCEA Applicants was due on Nov. 1 with the application.

From the website:

“November 1: Early Action applicants: Deadline for all application materials. Also submit the initial components of your financial aid application. Even if you do not have access to final tax information by this time, we ask that you use the best available estimated figures.”

https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/apply/application-timeline</a></p>

When your portal says all documents have been received, it’s talking about transcript, secondary school report, recommendations, etc. I’m not sure how this will affect your decision, since admissions is need-blind. It could affect how much aid you get if you are to be accepted SCEA, though there could be some loopholes I don’t know about since I don’t understand the whole FA process exceptionally well myself.

Some associates just got their CalTech decisions…we are getting so close guys!

And can someone else shed some light on the CSS PROFILE? Will my not having submitted yet affect my SCEA chance?

it wont affect ahcne but u should submit just to be safe

what time will emails come out on the 13th?

I planned on submitting after decisions, so I think I’ll stick to that. They would have surely contacted me by now if it was mandatory (like they contact people if other things are missing), right??

Slushy, 5 pm Eastern I believe.

They likely just won’t offer you any financial aid^^ but I would call asap

Just was reading through this and am now incredibly nervous because I have not done anything with the CSS and I checked yes for financial aid. I will need the financial aid. Is my application not going to be considered for financial aid? Please, someone with experience shed some light on this.

Here is the argument that SCEA will be released Dec 12th not 13th, even though the office might say it is the 13th
(1) Website says if you don’t get the email, call the next day. If the 13th, next day is Saturday and they are ordinarily not open on Saturdays
(2) Prior two years they released on Thursday not Friday - you can search the Harvard Crimson and it is clear on this point
(3) Do a constrained Google Search “early action” “december 12, 2013” “harvard” and you will see 2nd search result at harvard’s website. If you look at the summary which came from the Google cache, it says “admission decision letters will be sent Thursday morning, December 12, 2013” but when you click on the link, that is no longer on Harvard’s website.

Perhaps the admissions office wanted to give themselves some leeway? Or maybe they decided they needed an extra day this year and it really did slip?

ckfy63a:
Don’t worry! I read the FAQ word by word and it’s perfectly ok to submit your CSS profile later. You will just be notified about your financial aid package later than others. That’s all

^^^Yeah, don’t worry- I submitted my CSS profile late, too. Apparently they are pretty lenient about these things, since the CSS is just an estimate using last year’s tax returns.

^^Well, if several people already called and the admissions office confirmed that decisions would be released on the 13th, they may have changed their minds about the 12th. Right now everyone’s betting on Friday the 13th.

Less than a week left, guys.

Btw, is anyone else posting their decision results/stats? I’ve copied and pasted the template from the thread, and I’ve already filled mine out…haha

I’ve filled mine out too lol

Yeah, I filled mine out. Really worrying to see a lack of DECA/FBLA/Key Club/the other “household names” on my app/post-to-be. I really hope the lack of those doesn’t prevent Harvard from seeing my intense commitment and deep passions. But we’ll see. Hopefully the odds will be with me for the next week, haha.

Oh, and sorry to double-post, but thank you @AnnaTheGreat for easing my mind regarding the profile!! :)

Lol, I probably should start filling it out since I’ll likely be too dejected to fill it out after being deferred/rejected.

Also, I was looking at the SCEA thread from last year (I’ve been pretty obsessive, lol) and everyone started fighting after decisions came out. Can we all remain nice and friendly to each other when Friday arrives? :)

The applicant status page expires on the 11th at midnight.

Services available for:

 • Early Action applicants: October 3 to December 11
 • Freshman applicants: October 3 to March 25

But I’m not sure how this works if the candidate is deferred. Does that mean if your website is still active past December 11 at midnight you have been deferred?

I think at some point in the process they delayed it a day, because now people have called to confirm that it is the 13th. The 12th would make more sense based on the above info, because the google search cached page said the morning of the 12th they would be sent.
