Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

Maybe they mean the physical letters will be sent on the morning of the 12th

@NeutralityACTo36, They were debating this last year and they’re pretty sure that a function portal past midnight on Dec. 11 is not related to deferral. Some people’s portals still worked and they were accepted. One thing I did notice from last year was that all the deferred people got their emails first. Many accepted people did not get the email until like 6 PM and so they checked their portals (or the admitted students website, I forget which), which said Congratulations Class of 2017. Lol, this is what I do when I have nerves…

collegeluva, i thought that deferred people get their emails first too, but i’ve also heard of people getting their emails even at 4:30 and just shortly after 5:00. my friend (class of 2016) got his acceptance at like 6:00 but his other accepted friends also got their emails at 5:00!

collegeluva: To refer back to a previous post… Yeah, I really hope we don’t have too many trolls / generally obnoxious people on the decisions thread this year! People need to stop a) making fun of Harvard applicants on CC who genuinely care about admissions (just 'cause we get high grades due to our dedication and hard work doesn’t make us pretentious jerks!), and b) blaming their deferral/rejection on being a certain race or not being a certain race or something else they can’t control.

Basically, we’re a community, so let’s stick together and support one another! :)

Just checking in on the “when do they announce decisions” debate, my likely letter says the “formal letter of admission will be sent on December 13”

Besides Harvard, what schools are people applying to for the RD round?

Subtle brag…
Anyways congrats :p

I couldn’t PM it to y’all, so I guess I’ll paste it here(not so personal anyway)

" Thanks for your message. The actual poem is not absolutely essential. It’s great that you mentioned your award for that poem. The Committee has finished its decisions for Early Action, so sending the poem now is not necessary. We have received your other supplemental work and that is why.All the best!"

Thebeatlestoday:
If I get into Harvard, nowhere.
If I don’t: Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Yale, Penn, Brown, Wellesley, Vassar, Amherst, Grinnell Smith, Mount Holyoke, Barnard, UChicago,

I know these are too many but I have to be sure I get in somewhere.

Here is the reply I got, certainly not as friendly, lol.

"Thank you for contacting us. You may submit additional information
and/or supplementary materials by email to this address, by fax to
617-496-3229, or by post to the address listed below. Some
supplemental materials may also be submitted in hard copy or
electronically, via Slideroom. For more information, please see our
website at:
https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/application-process/application-requirements/supplemental-application-materials.

If you choose to submit by email, please note that we do not open
attachments. All information must appear in the body of the email,
and your subject line should read: Additions to Application."

And I don’t know why they told you committee finished evaluations when they’re letting me send something in, since I asked them specifically if my EA application had been completed evaluated and I told them that if it had been, they didn’t need to let me send anything in so…idk…

My guess is that ecstatia has been accepted (don’t wanna jinx anything for you, though) and that I have been deferred. I guess we’ll see in a few days!

Anna: I’m also applying to Brown, Amherst, and Wellesley, among others… But yeah, hopefully I won’t have to apply anywhere else after this Friday!

collegeluva: Your reply sounds automated, so what I’m guessing is that you happened to email them at a time when they were already receiving a high volume of emails, so an admissions officer couldn’t reply personally, whereas with ecstatia, an admissions officer had the time to respond. I’ll bet that if they had received your email at an off time, you would’ve gotten a personal email, too.

@Thebeatlestoday, This could be true though I still don’t understand why they would let me send in more stuff when I specifically indicated in my subject line and several times in my email that I am an SCEA applicant. Wouldn’t it have made more sense for them to tell me that committee has finished evaluating and that I could send stuff in if I happened to be deferred? Idk, this whole thing is so confusing… :(

You’re over-thinking it :)

So are the people who respond to the emails and phone calls actual admissions people? From the emails and calls, it seems they are fairly knowledgeable, but I would doubt that the people making decisions are also taking calls and responding to emails.

How are you guys passing the time until Thursday or Friday or whenever results actually come out?

Neutrality: I’m sure they have at least one secretary answering calls. I do know, however, that if you ask to speak to a specific admissions officer, they’ll usually direct your call to his/her line, so you are in fact speaking with someone who has read your file.

Saldaddario: I’m spending a LOT of time on this thread (but then again, I was on CC quite a lot this summer, so I guess I just really love this place!), but I’m also trying to relax a bit by devouring John Grisham legal thrillers and watching all the corny Tim Allen/Chevy Chase/Bill Murray Christmas classics with a cup of hot cider in hand.

If I get in I’m still applying to: Yale, Stanford and Brown

If I am deferred/rejected: Brown, Columbia, USC, Pomona, Penn, Stanford, Boston University, Princeton, Georgetown, Yale, and Duke.

Hmm…if I or my LoR writers or my GC haven’t heard from admissions (well, I haven’t asked, but I’m pretty close to them so they might’ve told me) since the receipt of my application (well, except for my interview of course), does that pretty much guarantee my deferral/rejection? I’ve heard many stories of LoR writers/GC’s being contacted by Harvard about applicants who make it far along in the SCEA process.

Oh, and if I’m rejected/deferred, I’m applying to: MIT, CalTech, Princeton, and UChicago

If I’m accepted (hah), probably nowhere, depending on my time schedule for the next few weeks.

It’s only 5 days until the decisions come out…
