Hmm…I’m wondering if this is a glaring omission. So I’ve been taking Calculus III online through MIT’s OpenCourseWare. I’ve corresponded with an admissions officer about this in the past, and I’m pretty sure my math teacher’s recommendation mentioned it. However, I failed to mention it in my Common App. Would it be worth calling admissions tomorrow to update this, or will it be noted since it was (likely) mentioned in the letter of recommendation?

LOL. All we have to look for is the first 3 words in the email body.
ACCEPTED: “I am delighted” or REJECTED: " I am sorry" or DEFERRED "The committee on "

^ Haha well said.

Lol, only first word apparently (if they use the same acceptance letter as last year):

“Congratulations!” = Acceptance

“I” = Rejection

“The” = Deferral

^LOL
The wait is endless! Can’t 13th December come already ?!?

I guess so

@annathegreat you care to share your stats?

To add to the previous discussion of the committee and when decisions are being made, I received this on Friday after I emailed my person another award I received.

Thanks for the update. I’ll make sure to include this information with your application materials for our committee discussions this week and next.

Hope you’re well,

for discussion next week
means u probably got deferred

IHarvard : Why? My stats aren’t so great. That’s why I never started a “chance me” thread. I knew everyone would tell me that I won’t get in. They may be right but I wanted to try.
I live in a country with no ACT or SAT available! So I had to pay tons to take those tests. Plus I didn’t have any test preparation books or anything. Taking a test in another country can be very stressful. Oh and I also learned English on my own when I was 15 (almost no one speaks English in my country)

…anyway, my stats are:

ACT: 30 (28/35/27/30)
SAT II: 800 (physics) 770 (math2) 760 (math1)
GPA: 19.3/20
TOEFL: 633 out of 677

@slushy, deferred means deferred to the RD pool which means my application would come back to the committee with the RD pool after an additional read and the read of everyone else applications. The way I read into it was that it just means that the committee has not gotten to my region yet(I believe that is how they do it) or that I have been pushed for re-evaluation with the SCEA group. But who knows there is no point in stressing over it there is only four days left. I will either get accepted, rejected or deferred. Nothing I can do about it now.

Not to double post but @annathegreat taking tests in other counties is weird. I took the Math II and USH subject tests this Saturday in a open classroom that was really hot. The test started and hour late. The desks were very uncomfortable with like one square foot of space to write on and there were bullet holes in the wall. Got to love Africa.

Just confirming: the committee could very well still be making final decisions on applicants from the Western US, right? Just curious, this’ll impact whether I send my update or not; meeting with GC in a few hours to finalize…

I honestly doubt any update you send in now, even if taken into account, will impact your decision at all. I’m not trying to be a downer but you’re probably just wasting your time.

ckfy: how would any outsider even have a single clue about whether or not they are still deciding on applicants from the Western US? I get that this is a nervous time but think about your questions.

A Harvard College alumnus told us that decisions were probably completed last week and that the admissions office is probably building and doing quadruple checks on accepted vs. deferred vs. rejected emails lists this week. I am not an insider and may be wrong, but I believe the best thing to do at this point is relax and wait. The Admissions Office would probably appreciate your patience. Hang in there everyone!

T26E4, obviously no one ones for sure, but perhaps there may be people on this thread who were contacted (who live in the Western USA) about the decision fairly recently. Clearly no one knows for sure, but perhaps you should think more about your response before assuming that I thought that someone on this thread would miraculously be an insider…

Hi guys! I’m so late to the party, but hi. sits hyperventilates for next 4 days Forget the first few words in the decision email, I’m probably going to pass out before I even click on the message.

@annathegreat don’t be discourage. Harvard is very holistic and they accept a variety of applicants I went to one of their information session and one alumi told me that they care about the applicant as a whole not just one thing. If you have a low gpa, will you get denied automatically? No. If you have a low sat score, will you get rejected? No. No one can tell you whether or not your going to accepted base off stats. There were people accepted with low gpa and low sat while some with high stats were rejected. No one knows bc they are not the admission officers of harvard! Just apply! If they want you, they want you, if not at least you tried your best!

Thirteen has been my lucky number since I could count. This could change quite abruptly in the next few days

Good luck everyone. Hope none of you are breathing as hard as I am!

Out of interest - any more internationals out there?
