Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

To go along with the second interview, what about an email asking for first quarter report card? My school reports grades using semesters, so not sure how Harvard’s going to weigh this. I had some bs and as

Have most of you guys had interviews already? Does it mean anything if you have/have not?

“Thank you for contacting us with additional information for your previously submitted application. This automated message is a confirmation that we have received your email, and that it will be printed and added to your file for review by the admissions committee.”

Part of the automatic response I got back after e-mailing them my additional info on Friday. At this point, I’m praying that “admissions committee” means SCEA admissions committee and that my application is still under review!

catchtwentythree: Homework and sooooo much television :p

dasdui: Nobody really knows. Some people here have postulated that maybe it means you’re further along the process than most applicants (a good sign) or that they’re on the fence about you due to low academics (a good or bad sign, depending on your first quarter grades). If you for some reason can’t provide them with quarter grades, have your counselor email/call them about it.

shinexalive: If you didn’t get contacted for an interview, it’s probably because they couldn’t find an available alumnus in your area…unless your academics are really poor and thus they threw out your application immediately. (But I’m sure you’d know if your academics were THAT much below what Harvard expects.)

@shinexalive, It literally means nothing. They do not take into consideration whether or not you are a strong applicant or a weak applicant when scheduling interviews. If there happens to be an alumnus or someone else in your area who can do the interview, they will schedule one. If not, they do not. Oh well, it happens. It is not at all your fault, and it will not negatively impact your admissions decision. :)

On what day are we getting our decisions? Does by the 15th just mean on the 15th…?
If not, will we be notified as to what day we will find out?

Thanks.

I’ll probably have the email by the time I get done with practice on Friday and if I get in I’m going absolutely crazy, tackling my teammates and hugging everyone out of sheer joy.

I needed to brighten this place up.

so you expect the emails to go out on Friday?

Friday @ 5 ET. Or sometime around 5 ET.

heyyy @shinexalive  nice to see you here lol
And yeah, I have been on/off sick lately so I am suffering nausea spells but I’m not sure whether that’s from this bacterial infection or from nerves… I hate this waiting game

The past two years, the notifications have gone out on a Thursday at 5:00 eastern time. Why would it not be on Thursday this year, too?

@tunedinmom, frankly, I’m inclined to agree with you. But the fact that so many members have been told the 13th seems indicative. Maybe materials trickled in later in November, and they needed the extra day? Maybe Friday the 13th is Fitzsimmon’s lucky time? Who knows, and, honestly, in the scheme of things, who cares? It’s just one day in what has been a 45-60 day process, depending on when the application was submitted!

Expect Friday, and if it comes in Thursday, there you go, you have it a day sooner.

I had the same thought – that they might have needed the extra day this year. But it is also possible that they say Friday is the day, but actually send the emails at the close of business on Thursday. It matters only because I will be at work and want to be sure that I am available for my son, whichever way it goes.

Has anyone heard of them sending official decisions(not likely letters) to applicants before the date that the rest are sent out, like a week before? Possibly trying to grab a truly exceptional applicant?

@tunedinmom, Ah, I totally get it! I guess that’s why they call you the tuned-in mom!! ;)

@NeutralityACTo36, I feel like that’s wishful thinking, especially during the early round. Since it’s single choice, it’s not like there’s some time crunch that Harvard needs to be aware of when wanting to “grab” such an applicant…I feel like there are many such candidates in the early round as it is. After all, being notified on the 13th IS early as it is and is the sign that Harvard wants to grab you!!

I am excited.

@tunedinmom: Harvard doesn’t need to send emails out early. It’s Friday, confirmed by multiple sources.

@NeutralityACTo36: The Ivies, by joint agreement, DO NOT send out early notices to avoid the exact situation you’re referring to. All Ivies announce their EA/ED according to published schedules (this year, has faced the most shifts) and then all together, they announce in the Spring.

Are our high school college counselors notified earlier than we are?

I don’t know about your school, but my school councilor never knows when or if a student has been accepted into a post secondary institution unless a student tells her.

^ Same at my school.
