Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

For all the people who called the admissions office to find out when decisions would come out, did they say BY Friday or ON Friday?

Just based on past years and logistics, Thursday makes a lot more sense so if people have been hearing BY Friday, the admissions office is probably just giving themselves some padding and we could keep our hopes up for Thursday…

I’m pretty sure it has been decided that the decisions will begin to be released on Friday the 13th at 5:00PM Eastern Time. There has been a lot of discussion on this topic already, so I would encourage you to look back through the past few pages or to use the search tool to check my answer.

@milliee: A bunch of us have already signed up to do just that on the pledge thread. We’ll post our stats to the “Official Harvard University 2018 SCEA Decisions Thread,” which has yet to be stickied.

milliee, here’s the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1586643-official-harvard-university-2018-scea-decisions-thread.html

Guys,

When I opened my door to go to school this morning, a cold, wintry gust came in. It seized three of my eyelashes and carried them to my desk. They landed in the shape of an “H.” Isn’t it weird for Harvard to be sending me this kind of message so late in the selection process? What do you think it means?

;)

@Saldaddario: I’m more worried about how a gust of wind yanked out three of your eyelashes…

Oh my god you guys the school just called me (like a woman from the admissions office) and asked if we could schedule a phone interview today or tomorrow. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN GAWD i’m so stressed b/c I had just come to terms with the fact that I’ll probably be rejected, but now I know that my application is still under last-minute review (and that they’re probably on the fence about me) and UGHHHHHH

Are you an international applicant?

findingneema, the fact that they called is a good. At least you know you have a chance. Good luck.

On another note, when my son called the admissions office last week about a missing SATI official score report he was told not to worry about it because his ACT scores and SAT II scores were very impressive [so they did not need to get his official SATI official report to make a decision]. He did not probe and ask any more questions so he has no idea on what to expect on Friday. Good luck!

^I don’t want to get your and your son’s hopes up, but it looks like they already think very highly of him :)

No, I’m not an international applicant!

@findingneema:

I had a call for a phone interview on monday. I’m really not sure what it means, but I don’t think you should be stressed. The admissions officer that spoke to me was very courteous and just asked questions about my life in general. Be prepared for the “why did you apply early to harvard?” question, and above all, just be yourself. It isn’t really formal, they just want to get to know you better.

wistful sigh I wish I was getting a call from the admissions office

3 more days, 4320 minutes,259,200 seconds… good luck to you guys I am applying regular decision so I am just as nervous as you guys ! Good luck again

@RayeDrum: most admitted students never receive a call. It could be that getting a call means that they’re unsure about you, so I wouldn’t worry about it :)

Yeah, I realize that. I’m just much more confident in myself as a speaker than as a writer. It’s one of those things where my mind is like “If I could only just talk to them or (insert another stereotypical applicant wish here)” hahaha  It’s something I’ve just got to let go and get over. I’m slowly getting there :)

@Prospector7 - What a class act you are - giving guidance to findingneema on what to expect in the phone interview knowing how competitive these admissions are. I appreciate your gesture. Hope you get to go to Harvard …

I agree  most kids on this forum are really nice. I hope all of them get in

Thank you so much Prospector7  I’m really trying to get rid of these nerves so that I can let my true self shine! My interview is in 3 hours. I’ll let you guys know how it goes :)

@findingneema, Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do splendidly!
