Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

Why does it have to feel like Thursday? It just makes the wait more painful…

Do you think the admitted student emails will be emailed first? Isn’t this how it usually goes?

Last year the deferrals came first and admitted students received emails about 20-30 minutes later.

^Even if that’s true, the high volume of emails sent out endures that many people get their emails even as late as an hour after the time they’re sent out, so the accepted applicants could get their snails later anyway.

my friend’s friends were accepted right at 5:00 two years ago so idk if that’s necessarily true

Last year admitted student emails were sent last.

I think I’ll check my decision before my game. Eeep. And if I don’t get in, I’ll try to play through my sadness.

Collegeluva101, I so feel your pain right now.

I changed the timezone of my computer to be December 12th (Thursday) several hours ago, and then I fell asleep when I was finishing up a government paper. I awoke hours later, and saw the time on my computer to be 12/12 at 3:58 pm. I’m like “Yes, just one more day!” Then, it had hit me that my timezone was off. :P

[deleted] 10car

what happens if we change the date to after December 14 when the portal is supposed to come back online for RD, then will we know if we are deferred?

2:00 central time I will be in my Teaching Assistant period which is dead quiet… should I pretend to have left something in my car and check my email in the freezing cold but private confines of my car? Hmmm

Neutrality: Try it out and see what happens :)

oh GOD I’m going to be at a debate tournament on Friday so I don’t know what to do asldkjfalsfjd like regardless of what happens I’m pretty sure I’ll bawl my eyes out. I’ll just make my opponents uncomfortable by crying during the round. It definitely sounds like a winning strategy.

Except actually I’m super torn as to whether or not I ought to open the email before my first round (which is at 6:30 EST). welp welp I’ll probably be ****ed either way. Good luck to everyone!

^mine looked normal for dec 14

@neutrality, fare thee well, brave adventurer.

^Didn’t work for me. If you think about it it would only work after they had deleted the accepted/rejected accounts, if that even happens.

Wait…so to make sure: people who get accepted or rejected—but not deferred—will end up with deleted portals at 3 pm on Friday 12/13? Or will all portal usage be blocked until the 14th. What of the accepted/rejected ones then?

@slothz, I decided to open before my game. The way I (and diddly123) see it, we’ll be super distracted if we check it or if we don’t, either from nerves or disappointment, but at least there is a possibility we might be happy if we check before!

It seems that once portal usage for the group of accepted/rejected has been deactivated you could in theory go to time when it was activated, and see if it worked for you.

@ckfy63a, Last year, I believe accepted people who did not get their decisions at ~5:30 PM checked their portals (or the admitted students website, I forget which. If it’s the admitted students website they checked, my words are meaningless, lol) and they received a congratulations on their acceptance.

They checked the admitted students portal last year. It isn’t up yet though I checked
