Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

@dagumi where you from?

@dagumi‌ That is so wierd.
My take: they liked you well enough to admit you without an interview. But now that decisions are being finalized, they want to make sure you’re a good fit.
OR they aren’t really sure what to make of you and need an interview to make a final decision. But if I were you, I’d take it very seriously. They obviously care about you as an applicant, or they wouldn’t scramble to schedule something so short-notice.

@mindyru They only offer on campus interviews and my parents told me they are not going to let me go.

@MissDianaKhr I’m a domestic applicant and there is a Harvard club in the area, if that means anything.

@jalebigirl Ahh, I sure hope that’s the case! I wonder how closely alumni work with admissions to orchestrate these interviews.

@dagumi‌ Decisions are coming out this Thursday at 5. Maybe they’ll defer you and make a real decision with the interview? The whole situation is really strange

As far as I’ve heard, last minute interviews only make an impact when it’s with admissions officers. I’ve heard of people getting called to do phone and Skype interviews with adcoms during the last week, so if they offer that im not sure a simple alumni interview means much.

Is yours with normal alumni or the big guys up at Cambridge?

@collegeapps2k14 It’s a local interview, so not the “big guys” I’d think, haha.

@235423 That’s the impression that’s set itself in my mind, as much as I don’t want it to be true.

Asking for my sister: Does anyone know what happens when we get the email? Will there be a preview/excerpt of the email on our phones?

Will we see the decisions before clicking on the email itself?

Subject line: Your Harvard Application

Email body: Too many people want to attend, blah blah blah, we don’t have enough spots, blah blah blah, the essays all started sounding the same so we picked the names out of a hat…

Congratulations! or…We regret to inform you…

Hope for your sister’s sake that it’s the former. I guess the preview depends on the settings on her phone?

I just found out the valedictorian of my school who also happens to be the state golf champion is applying SCEA. My chances just went out the window.

If there was ANY doubt about decisions coming out on the 11th at 5:00 PM EST, Kaitlin Howrigan '05 just announced on admissions live presentation online that this is the case.

^Such a relief! And apparently the e-mail will only include a link to the portal, where the decisions will be released.

The admissions officer in the Harvard Online Chat just confirmed that SCEA decisions will be sent out on thursday at 5pm…but then she said that you would get a link in your email pointing you to the Applicant portal…where you would see your decision…kind of different. I was thinking the decision would be right in the email. Maybe she just misspoke…or maybe things have changed from prior years.

Did anyone else do an on-campus interview? And if so, what was your experience

@sephiroth0415‌ no she didn’t misspeak.

decisions are coming through the portal.

@mnrepresent‌ I did in October. It was actually pretty relaxed and conversational, and my interviewer was really nice. It also helped me get a better sense of the school.

wait so is the portal the same portal we’ve been using? or a new one?

I’m so nervous right now. I can’t imagine how I’ll be feeling on Thursday.

@mnrepresent I also had an on-campus interview with a recent grad who is an Admissions Officer, and I really enjoyed our conversation, so I couldn’t have been more satisfied with it- whatever their decision turns out to be. How did yours go?

We went to see the campus every summer for the last 4 years and did the official tour this past March. It’s a lovely campus although I liked Yales campus better. My daughter is a huge American Revolution buff so she prefers Boston area to New Haven.
