Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

To those that were accepted: Congratulations!
To those that were denied: Condolences!
To those that were deferred: <a href=“The Truth About Getting Deferred | HuffPost College”>HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost;

Hey so congrats to all of you guys getting accepted… I’m a bit jealous of course, but in hindsight you are all pretty much more qualified than me… On another note, do you guys think I should retake the sat

2230 after three sittings

SAT Reasoning Test - $52.50
SAT Subject Tests - $68.00
Advanced Placement Tests - $1424.00
College Applications - $450.00

Receiving an acceptance on December 11 and realizing that you will be spending the holiday break doing absolutely nothing connected with college applications - Priceless :)

Congratulations to all those accepted.

@Soccerlover17: As referenced in post #3763, have your guidance counselor call Harvard Admissions and ask “If Soccerlover17 retakes the test and gets a higher score, will it help them?” Although you could retake the test, I’m willing to be that your test scores had almost nothing to do with the reason you were deferred.

Hey @gibby thanks a lot for that article … My mom tells me that she too was deferred and then accepted…I guess I can’t give up just yet

Less qualified by whose standards? Yours? I think this is the best example of what we have been telling you all during this whole process. HYPS and all these schools use a HOLISTIC approach to admissions. If you want a school that admits based only on your stellar stats, then that’s where you should have applied. Oh no, that’s right - you wanted to go to Harvard.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and schools like that are so sought after because their holistic approach to admissions means that each and every class they have is a wonderful assortment of all kinds of people. Sure there are brilliant students, but once a determination is made that they can do the work, then they look for a class that “fits”. Since they have a 98% graduation rate in 4 years, they must be making the right choice at the front end and those poor students that you think are less qualified are walking away with a Harvard degree.

Before you make another snide comment - I am a 1982 graduate of Yale, a current interviewer, an alumni that does college fairs representing Yale, and the mother of a freshman so I believe I know what I am talking about.

Congrats to all that were accepted!! For those that got deferred, carry on with your apps. And for those that got rejection letters, trust me that this time next year you will be posting FB photos from whatever school you ultimately get into and will not be giving Harvard another thought.

Congrats to all those who were accepted!!! (Shoutout to @oxoxhawja3xoxo‌ !! Can’t believe you just showed up one day talking about nervousness and now look at you :slight_smile: )

To all of you who got deferred. Rock second semester and the Mid-Years. You got this.

To the denies: A college admission doesn’t define you. Go out there and laugh when you’re chilling in your dorm in New Haven next year ;)

@verbose - what about your post made anyone think it was a joke? I obviously didn’t because I responded to you with a lengthy post.

3758 @bcrater - I could not have said it better (though I tried). Thank you.

@skieurope Were you accepted?

@Falcon1 Yes.

Congrats!! Now, I’m wondering about @calliemoon11‌ Keeping fingers crossed.

@emenya haha Thank you! really. I’m still nervous TBH!

Congratulations @frozens @oxoxhawja3xoxo‌ @Karabekian‌ @Melissawilliams‌ @jalebigirl‌ and @skieurope‌ ; I am from the Yale thread, but I clearly remember coming to this thread to read some of your posts (Another lurker reading those messages filled with anxiousness!). From what I read, you are great applicants, and I know your benevolence was reflected in those applications; that was what made you special, after all. Congratulations and keep going everyone! (Those accepted, deferred, and rejected).

@Falcon1‌ I also hope @calliemoon11‌ got in; if not, I think he will fare excellently.

@Wells14 Hello! thanks for the kind words. I hope you heard good news from Yale as well. If so, see you on the other side. If not, good luck with your future applications!!

I got deffered really sad :frowning: can i send you guys my common app? PM ME your facebook name so I can add you please

@AngustaAdAugusta thank you!! I think if anything this experience has taught me that there is NO magic trick to getting into Harvard - not TASP or a perfect SAT or anything. I’m definitely still a little upset, but I think I’m just hoping that there’s a reason behind everything and maybe Harvard wouldn’t have been the best place for me anyway. I really like Vanderbilt and I’m hoping to get a scholarship, so who knows?? Maybe it’ll all work out! I hope so.

@virago1 I already posted that I was deferred, but I just wanted to say that a lot of schools not only consider your stats and achievements, but also you ‘fit’ for the school. In other words, they consider your goals and personality and see if they would work well with the school’s culture. That might be an answer to your ‘reason behind everything.’ :)
