Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

Lol I think it’s so cool the pictures that everyone chose! It really livens up the thread :)

Just curious: any first-generation Americans out there (meaning you’re born here, but both parents were born and raised abroad)??

I feel like being raised by immigrants is such a cool and unique experience, haha. Totally different parenting style

@entrebusecon Yep, it was all me for mine as well.

I was also dropped off for my interview, though.

On that topic, where did everyone have their interviews? I’d heard that it was mostly at coffee shops, but my interviewer invited me to this country club in the middle of nowhere that took forever to get to. That made me more than a little uneasy.

Well the reason why my parents didn’t do much is because They don’t know the language much and generally they have no clue how college works(first gen college) but I’m just glad to have them on my side and believe in me.
Yey I got a picture too :smiley: thnx @Karabekian‌
@jalebigirl‌ are u by any chance from India? Lol the name sort of sound indian! Lol sorry for being so creepy haha.

@Doxology I had my interview at a coffee shop. A country club screams Harvard alum though

@Melissawilliams‌ Not born here, but hopped off the plane when I was 2. I can’t be president, but that’s about the extent of my foreignness.

And yes, the parenting style is totally different :stuck_out_tongue: But I can’t speak for every child of immigrants.

@Melissawilliams‌: I’m also a first gen American! I agree that it’s definitely a unique experience.
@Doxology‌: I had mine at a coffee shop near my house, which helped make me feel really comfortable. My interviewer was incredibly kind, and drove 50 minutes to meet me there. It was a wonderful gesture. I agree that country club seems very stereotypically Harvard :)

My mother is from Switzerland, but grew up in Africa. My aunt is from Argentina. My uncle is Italian. My cousin lives in Japan. My other cousin lives in Spain. I have always lived in the good ol’ US of A though, so I don’t think my parenting/family has been particularly different.

On a side note: How does one delete posts on this forum? Also, how does one change privacy settings?

@ivydreamer99‌ Thank you so much! Turns out that my score was received!
Oh god I am so nervous these days.
Does anyone know what time of the day the decision comes out?

@Melissawilliams‌ First gen here! And I feel you and @jalebigirl completely about the parenting styles. Totally different.

@youngster9‌ Yeah we find out tomorow at 3 or 5 o’clock I think. Hella nervous haha :)

@zyU223 I’ve heard 3 PM

@zyU223‌ how did you find out your scores were received? did you call the office now?

@Melissawilliams‌ I am also a first-gen! I believe us first-gen citizens offer the extremely valuable perspective of being an American that is raised by immigrants. We can approach issues from two different viewpoints and maybe be more objective in our analyses.

@emenya and @frozens‌ That is extremely exciting! Good luck you guys, I can’t wait to hear some good news tomorrow! :D

@doxology that’s sick that you did a translation of a bit of the Art of War…haha I used to be pretty into some MMORPG games like League of Legends and I always tried to apply Sun Tzu’s teachings to my gaming…didn’t mention THAT on the harvard app though lmao :)

@youngster9: I think there may have been a misunderstanding – I’m not a QB applicant, but a regular SCEA applicant :wink: Thanks for the well wishes though!! And I completely agree with your views on being a first gen American.

QB applicants…good luck! May the odds be ever in your favor :wink:
The rest of us…less than two weeks left!!

Anyone here watch Mockingjay yet?

@soccerlover17‌ Thank you! Maybe you should’ve though! Like that guy in the Harvard Visitas video that plays Magic! :wink:

@doxology lol AWk

@Doxology What’s even more impressive is that you aren’t Chinese yet you’re already doing translation work at a graduate school level! Where did you learn Chinese? For me, learning Chinese was easy because my parents speak it all the time around me, but I guess it would have been a totally different experience for you.

@Karabekian‌ the profile pics idea’s just awesome, really helpful!

@zyU223 No problem! I was actually in your place for a week until yesterday and I almost got sick from worrying about that cause my previous SAT score was just horrible :slight_smile:
