***Official January 2015 SAT (US ONLY) THREAD***

@performante‌ According to this list, I also missed the median mode question; I double checked everything as well. Last time I only missed 1 math, and it was a calculator mistake (I entered 4860 instead of 4680… ffs). Honestly I still think the answer is both median and mode, and the people on here remembered wrong. I am a junior taking Multivariable Calc and Linear Algebra, having qualified for high honor roll in AMC 12 and got a 5 on AIME I last year as well… I can’t believe that I would drop to a 770 or 780 just cause of that question.

I am gonna believe in my answer and hope everyone on here remembered the question wrong LOL

Also, my friend in Lin algebra also got both median and mode; that’s why I felt confident about it at first, but then nope, 20 people on CC had to say they got median only.

What did u guys put for the passage about the lady writer and her left hand. The question was asking about how her mom influenced her or something in the last paragraph.

@Mickeymouse123‌ It was a multiple choice

@TheUltimateNerd‌ Firstly, those qualifications don’t mean anything for the SAT - there’s no calculus on the math sections.

However, either way, I have similar qualifications (AND I just turned 15 lol) and I (along with most people here) got that it was median only. I checked my answer, too.

I am not saying you can’t be right, but I think you’re tooting your own horn in an irrelevant way and you should remember that everyone makes mistakes now and again.

how for the stamp short passage the question that asked for the main purpose is the answer evoluation of hooby and not the appeal of an object or something like that…?

I got the appeal of an object

@i2400ezpz‌ It’s not “has yet to prove its reliability as of 2003” because they’re referring to rockets, plural.

@Anonymoose3‌ I just find it very strange that many bright math students, other than me, missed the EXACT same question the EXACT same way and that this was the only question they “missed”.

@TheUltimateNerd‌ And many bright math students all got the EXACT same different answer as well. It’s possibly a toss-up at this point, but I think the issue at hand is reading comprehension, not actual mathematics skills.

@Anonymoose3‌ If it’s a toss up, there should still be doubt about the answer: no one has yet replicated the exact problem to prove either or.

I agree that it’s a reading question in disguise; there was a trap in the text section about the graph being after they added 2 cars, or something similar. But we don’t have solid evidence to prove which group fell for the trap.

Here’s the compiled list (don’t ask a question that’s already been answered):

@theultimatenerd I’m in BC calc as well and it really wasn’t that hard of a question considering all you had to do was add 2 more x’s in one of those columns. Then see what changed and what remained the same. Not a toss up at all.

What did you guys do for the math question with the two intesecting circles? One had a radius of 4 and the other one had a radius or 5.

@rafaelsf see the post above that has a compiled list.

@tola2015 do you remember the exact phrasing? I don’t think it’s just a simple adding thing; I remember subtracting as the graph was “after” they added. I could be wrong about the after part, but also the people who picked the median only could be wrong about adding when it should have been subtracting, maybe.

The compiled list is not 100% sure correct; there’s still those “vs” questions not yet settled. It should only be for reference at this point. And I think the median question should also be labeled as such.

On the stamp one; there seems to still be some debate on previous pages - anyone know what percentages of people go with evolution over appeal?

It said if 2 more x’s are added to the 5.1 column what remains the same? It is simple adding. You’re making it more complicated than the question really is. When you add two more boxes the mode changes, the mean obviously has to change since there are more numbers, then you just count and see if the median stayed the same or changed.

It seems appeal doesn’t really account for what happens in the second half of the passage

I believe the graph was the “original” graph. Then, you had to add two 5.1’s. No photographic memory, so I’m not certain :’(.

However, it was an easy/medium question, so I doubt they’d make it that complex.
