thanx cory123, finally someone that understands this s$%!

does anyone remember any of the other choices for the encyclopedia passage question in which you guys say the answer was “narrow and biased”? I seriously dont remember that one or what I put but i do not remember ever putting narrow and biased !!! =(

yes, but the question asks ‘why didn’t she ask until now’. in other words, ‘why didn’t she ask before?’ because her mother was reluctant to do so.
like i said earlier, the emphasis in the passage is how her mother did not talk about her past, not the novel. the novel is hardly even mentioned in the entire thing.
also, i may be taking it the wrong way, but it sounds like you’re getting a little too big for your britches. this is just a discussion , i’m only trying to find the right answer.

lol lets just wait for QAS…there’s no point in arguing

anyway…someone wanna acknowledge my squid/encyc questoins?

actually, i remember the question about the paragraph with literature and history and the answer was definitely “to show the various topics offered in the encyclopedia.” that wasn’t the same question was it?

i kno im tryin to find the right answer, , but the question washtn why didnt she ask until now… i think thats where your misunderstood… it never included the words “until now” because she DID ask before

cory123: i also put “overestimating the breadth of their knowledge”. if i remember correctly, the quote cited in the passage read something like “in the future, other people will look at our nonsense and throw it out and create new nonsense”. i think the quote was referring to the fact that we think we’re very advanced, but in the future people will look at it like we’re cavemen, and in turn, create their own “more advanced” technology only for it to be thrown out by people even further in the future.

She DID NOT ask before, as is indicated by the use of “finally” in both the question and the topic sentence of the paragraph about her asking her mother.

unfortunately there is no QAS offered for this SAT, only SAS. i am not sure if we are going to see the questions… just probably the letter choice that we put and whether it was right or wrong… which is not gonna help us unless we make another thread trying to gather which letter was what choice!! lol

btw, for the squid passage i put that both suggest that scientists have not found a living one.

Well, we just have to remember what part of the section it was and what answer we put if we got few or none wrong. Or, if somebody got the entire section correct, we just ask what they put.

alright ye that makes sense. Sometimes i pass over answer choices too quickly. i think that’s my first wrong lol. As long as dont exceed 2…

Murderah that was a different quesiton but you are correct

Are we all in agreement that both passages suggest “scientists have never found a live squid”??

Actually, the SAS can help. As long as one remembers which answer choice he chose and the approximate question number, we can ascertain the correct answer.

the answer is she needed material for her book.

end of story

What about moi, nmehta? %-)

Godot, I think we can all agree that the mother did, at one point, stifle her daughter’s curiosity, desire, or what-not. What is there to imply, however, that the daughter’s writing career somehow precluded an interest in her mother’s past? Even if it did, our task is to identify what made such a desire resurface, and at that particular moment. In my opinion, it was the task of writing a novel that galvanized the author. Fin!

Exactly what I meant Godot, except I am less articulate.

true…
any more information about that “narrow and biased” question??
btw it seems i havent missed any passage questions yet except that one… but i unfortunately missed 2 vocab and left 2 vocab blank!!

yeah i got “scientists have never found a live squid” too

damn, alright i’ll count that as 2.

does anybody remembering the section 10 writing questiong that had something about Queen Elizabeth in it…was the answer an independence?

bschenkel,

I don’t think you completely understood the point of the question. The question asked for why she never asked her mother until now. In other words, it focuses on the past, on why she might have been reluctant to ask in the past. The question isn’t so much concerned with why she finally asked; that reason is clear: it’s actually both that she is writing a book and that she is genuinely interested in her mother’s past and finally worked up the courage to ask her. The correct answer, which actually answers the question, is that her mother’s attitude was too overwhelming and stifling when she was growing up. To answer that writing a book explains why she never asked in the past makes no sense. I also believe that the your chosen choice was not quite what everyone has quoted. The exact choice, as it was written on the exam (of course, I don’t remember it now), was not defensible when I read it.
