Official June 2nd SATI Thread

also… can anyone recall anymore information from these questions

 1. the chinese passage where everyone said the main idea was a difficult undertaking (i remember ruling that out right away and still dont think the passage had much to do with that)
 2. the short passage question where the answer was supposedly close-knit (i dont remember putting that but maybe just forgot)
 3. going to the store question… andreaaaaaa said it was “everyday activity” but is that the one where the answer was prosaic (hopefully!)

is everyone sure that an answer was tasteful? i remember ruling that choice out… anyone remember the question or choices?

any chance that the jazz musician vocab question was the “virtuoso” choice instead of tutelage?

Agreed on 1,2, and 3. I don’t remember the tasteful one, and tutelage was the correct answer to the musician one.

i didnt put the scientists havent discovered a squid, didnt make sense, i put something else

^ ye i chose something to the extent of “literature embelishes the reputation of the squid”

murderah:

pretty sure it was the difficult undertaking of trying to get her mom to tell her about her past
it was close-knit, although you might have picked judgmental?
no, prosaic was from “the others” short passage
was tasteful the answer to exquisite? Cause we agreed exquisite = meticulous
nah, it was tutelage.

i put literature distorts it: heres my reasoning

passage 1, put an emphasis on myths and gave good examples

passage 2, stated in like the second passage bout the description of a squid

scientists havent discovered a squid doesnt seem to even key in with either of the passsages

cory123, was that an answer for the question bout the two passages, cuz now that i think of that, i think i put that

damnit!! the virtuoso choice was an instantaneous reaction to the musician related sentence!!
i could have possibly put judgmental… not good…
dont remember “the others” passage but i remember putting prosaic so no worries
oh yeah if tasteful is supposed to be the answer for exquisite then no way! i put meticulous and i thought everyone agreed on that too.

on another note… what am i guaranteed to get on CR with 8-10 wrong and 2 blank?

640 - 660 10char

well, scientists havent found a live squid was DIRECTLY stated in passage 1. That much i remember. I just don’t recall it being in passage 2, which is why i didnt choose it.

Godot, i think you’re assuming to much. The relative context suggests that she finally decided to ask her because she needed material. If you looked at first few sentences of the paragraph where she introduces the idea, she is talking about herself becoming a writer and consequently, asking her mother aout her past. Basically, it went like “I became a writer. I decided to ask my mother about her past” Why would she include the first part, if it wasnt a relevant reason to ask her about her past?

any thoughts on cory’s answer: “literature embelishes the reputation of the squid” i think thats almost dead on

That squid one relating the two passages was a trap. If you skimmed the second paragraph of the 2nd, you’d think it talked about distortion. actually, the second passage never mentioned distortion, only that writers often must describe squids to their readers. It does, however, mention that squids have never been photographed, which would indicate that scientists haven’t found a live one.

which one are you talking about nmehta? The squid one was comparison. Only other comparison was the biographies passages

edit: ye daredevil you’re probably right. I honestly didn’t go back and read passage 2 that carefully, so i might have missed it.

d4r7h3v1l, very true

cory123 - if she asked only because she became a writer, she wouldn’t have included the parts about her childhood. the childhood part has nothing to do with her being a writer and servers only to illustrate her difficulty in understanding her mothers past.

I went with B – Scientists have never discovered a live squid.

Godot,

I’m far too tired/apathetic to rehash my earlier arguments, but I could just as easily claim that you didn’t completely understand the question. Like most of these ambiguous questions, choosing the best answer is a matter of interpretation, not mere comprehension. Whereas you focus on the negative (i.e. why she hadn’t asked about her mother’s past earlier), I focus on the positive (i.e. what sparked her interest at that particular moment).

On a brighter note, perhaps these highly debatable questions suggest a generous curve, especially for the CR!

i don’t think the answer was close-knit… the whole time she was talking about how she despised their ways. i put something negative. could be wrong though.

curve is never generous

this may or may not have been said…you’ve been debating this forever…

the response about needing material for her writing said something along the lines of (but not exactly):
She was not interested in her mother’s past until she needed a topic for her writing.

the paragraph before clearly said that author had a “longing” to find out
my guess is that she did not find out even though she had a longing because the mother’s attitude stifled it…whoa! an answer choice! :)

I think it was definitely close-knit.
