<p>There is another explanation for the large number of transfer students: Those students’ SAT scores are not included in the statistics for the freshman class. If there is an appicant who has a 1200 SAT, say, accepting him as a freshman lowers the official average SAT score whereas accepting him as a transfer does not. Some schools guarantee the right to transfer under certain conditons.</p>
