***OFFICIAL MAY 2015 SAT THREAD (US ONLY)***

@nyknicks2728 You should get somewhere around 690 - 720 if the Math curve this time is as harsh as the Math curve in general.

Yeah. The answer was def strong opposition. In passage 1, the scientist says that people should not be afraid/their fears are invalid or something like that whereas the scientist in passage 2 says that the people’s fears are def valid and even counters the exampes given in the first passage.

I put impartial narrator for the passage about the actors. Was that right? What were some other choices?

@scimathguy @2400ismygoal1 Sorry to be really annoying, but do u remember what the question said? Just deciding whether or not to cancel my scores - may have missed it.

I’m pretty sure it was an narrator from the prospective of the actors

It is mild exception because strong opposition is too extreme and passage two acknowledges some of the things that passage one says

But do you remember what the question asked or what number (or around what number) the question was?

@schoolisfunforme i remember passage two does acknowledge some of the things that passage one says but after passage two acknowledges, it immediately rejects the plausibility of the views held in passage one, hence, i believe its strong opposiiton.

@scimathguy The answer was mild exception… To begin with, “strong opposition” is simply too extreme and college board uses such extremes to trick people … Furthermore, in the beginning, the author agrees with some advantages of dna sampling then counters it… An author showing strong opposition would have a much stronger tone than this one did… This one was only skeptical

@ZaGongShow By acknowledging some of the things in passage one, that should make strong opposition already too extreme because passage two is using qualifying statements.

@schoolisfunforme uhhh i remember passage two saying something like i would agree to DNA fingerprinting only if its not abused, but because that is impossible and it will definitely be abused, then I continue to firmly oppose.

@ZaGongShow it wasn’t worded like that and only the last few paragraphs expressed the disappointment in passage two. It’s mild exception

@schoolisfunforme So we all arrive at the consensus that it’s mild exception?

@whereami10 if you scroll back, to the pages before, the consensus was strong opposition

@schoolisfunforme passage two also directly opposed passage one when passage two mentioned that DNA is not like fingerprinting and gave a list of reasons at the beginning of the passage, so i think its strong opposition… strong opposition doesn’t mean that hes like 100% opposed to passage one, passage two can acknowledge some of the points, but judging through the tone of passage two, its not a “mild” disagreement

The consensus doesn’t matter right now. Also strong opposition means 100 percent opposition. That’s why they put mild exception to keep a difference. Opposition means completely disagreeing. It wasn’t completely disagreeing.

@schoolisfunforme I “strongly” agree with you as well  . Typically a phrase like “strongly disagrees” or “strongly refutes” are always wrong on the sat because they are too extreme. This was a typical example @ZaGongShow

what was the question to the mild exception/ strong opposition debate? Please help.

In that DNA passage, there was a “counter a misconception” & “conceding a point” etc. Anyone remember that? @whereami10, @scimathguy, @schoolisfunforme.

I believe it was rationalizing a belief cause one of the passages didn’t concede a point and the other passage didn’t counter a misconxeptio.
