Sorry I didn’t see it. I would suggest looking at the course calendar for the particular major or majors you are considering. I was in the faculty of science and my major required 68 credits i believe, out of 120 to graduate. I’m pretty sure that doesn’t include the basic science prerequisite courses you need for the upper level ones (like bio, gen chem, org chem, calc, physics, etc). Because I passed out of some of the pre-reqs and didn’t have a minor I had a decent number of electives I could take, however they are very specific.

These are obviously subject to change but probably not much. If you have any question about a course, when you try and sign up for it online, the system won’t let you.

Again, once you are registering in sophomore, junior, and senior years, ask an advisor, they will know all the classes you are able to take for credit. And consult the clendar, its very informative.

that really doesn’t sound possible unless you were also admitted to the one you want to trasnfer… otherwise that would render the individual applications pointless. But I would try to call the advising office to make sure. You probably won’t get your advisor for some time (it will tell you on minerva), but call and ask what to do.

Again, unless you were admitted to it as well, and just think you made the wrong choice, it doesn’t seem likely that you would be able to change it until next year.

Sorry I can’t be of more help but I don’t know anyone who has done this. It would be like getting accepted to McGill and asking if they could use your acceptance to get you into Toronto… there’s a reason you apply to specific faculties. But ask to make sure, if you can do it I’m sure it won’t be easy.

^ Do you get assigned an advisor before you pick classes over the summer? I’m visiting campus in the spring and was going to try to meet with someone about class choices if I end up being u1. Should I just wait until I get an assigned advisor?

i would call and ask. thats a good question and honestly i don’t remember. when you get accepted you will have a minerva account and you will be able to see something called your unofficial mcgill transcript… it should say on there if and when you get assigned an advisor. there are general faculty advisors as well as individual advisors so you can always go to one of those. i won’t lie, they try to be helpful but they are never as helpful as you’d like. ask very specific questions and don’t leave until you have a satisfactory answer… cause often they refer you to a website which can just make things work. if you are persistent they will find a way to help.

i’d call the office, explain your situation and see who they would recommend and when. they each have very different office hours and times they take appointments so based on when you go determines who you can meet with. I wouldn’t wait until i get assigned one. i know you will have one very soon, but i don’t know when, and there is no guarantee they will be available during the busy hours at the start of the school year.

people who have been accepted, did you find that the specific grade requirements were crucial? i applied, got 2110 SAT and have a uw gpa of around 3.6, however the programs i applied to “required” a minimum of B+ in all math and english classes. I have always had A’s in english, but have gotten B/B- in math certain semesters and A’s other semesters.

@ klmnop - thanks. I called, they said to wait until August, but I also sent an e-mail to the Faculty of Arts newly admitted students e-mail, asking a little more specifically

…so hopefully I’ll find out soon what to do. =]

sent in my midyear and about a week and a half later got the acceptance. I also sent in a killer rec. from a UBC prof who taught a summer program that I went to, maybe that helped?

Well this is an acceptances thread, but I am sure this will be helpful info for other prospective students
