**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

@ aerold:

Exceeding 90 units does not bar you from transferring anywhere. If you have more than 60 semester units, most schools will only grant you 60 transfer credits and will give you course credit for all of the classes that remain.
In case you still have your doubts, I am an aerospace engineering major that decided to TAG, so I will end up taking almost 120 semester units by the end of this Spring and this has not prevented me from being accepted anywhere.

Hi guys,
Have you ever taken Robert Entus for Chem? I’m now on the waitlist and he hasnt said anything about adding. He gives us lots of work to do, even for people on the waitlist. I’m going to his class every day. I went to other Chem classes as well but no teachers were willing to add people not from the waitlist. I’m pretty frustrated here. I know there’s one week left and I hope I can get this class, but… TT_TT
Btw, Im thinking of transfering to UCI. I have read somewhere that there’s no need to take IGETC if your major is science. You just need to study prerequisites and transferable courses which are in ASSIST. Is that right?

hi guys does anyone know when the deadline to apply for 2013-2014 financial aid is? i’ve been searching but still havent been able to find out.

@ thatoneotherguy: I believe the deadline is today actually? March 2nd.

^^^ Yes the deadline is today, March 2nd.

Hey guys, procrastinating for my double midterm Wednesday coming up so I figured I’d stop by!

@lymeo - I love Entus, but most people don’t. I took him for Chem 51 and I, along with 2-3 others, were the only A’s in the class. Super weird and dry humor!

If anyone has UCB questions (especially math), I’ll be around for a bit

@JetLogic: Oh yeah, Cal is on semester. It’s finals week for me. LOL!

Do you have to be good at proofs to major in applied Math?

Not as good as a pure math major, but you do have to take (easy to hard):
110 - Linear alg. Proof based but pretty simple
113 - Abstract alg. Very proof based, still not that hard
185 - Complex analysis - calculus of analytic function, some usage of 104
104 - Real analysis - The proof beast. All that stuff they said you couldn’t prove in calc? Real analysis. Constructing the real number system? Real analysis. Definitely need mathematical maturity for this.

Other than that, proof are only there if you want them (classes more in the pure math arena)

How did everyone’s transfer admission go?!

I applied to UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Cal Poly SLO, USC, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, and UC Davis for Aerospace Engineering and got in everywhere but UCLA and Berkeley, though I technically still have to wait to hear from USC.

I’m choosing between Cal Poly SLO and University of Michigan, though I’m probably going to SLO unless Michigan gives me a hefty financial aid package. I know it’s one of the top schools in the country, but I just can’t see myself going to Michigan when I can go to SLO for a fourth of the cost, especially considering I’d like to save my debt making for grad school.

Congratulations fellow Mountie! Cal Poly SLO is a great institution!

Hey JL, as a Math major how many math classes do you take during a semester?

I got into UCI for my second bachelors. Originally transferred from Mt. Sac -> Cal (Environmental Econ) -> USC (Business Admin) and graduated in 2010. Went back to Mt. Sac this past fall for some CS courses so that I could take some pre-reqs for CS.

Mt. Sac sure has changed over the past few years, facilities are much nicer!

@Cyso
I’m usually taking 4, but it depends on the classes. I’m doing 1-2 graduate math courses next semester so I might only take 1-2 upper div undergrad math classes with those to keep the workload in check.
Normal math majors would typically only take 2-3 max (which allows for more sanity)

I’m currently a freshman at CSUF, but I am transferring back to community college at Mt Sac. If I apply for the honors program now, will it be accepted for the Fall semester? I’m coming in with 34 credits (6 credits from AP English Language with a score of 3). So, my second question follows, do I need to take English 1 again to fufill UC requirements? My goal is to transfer to UCLA or UCSD by next year…Possible?

All good questions!

…unfortunately, I don’t have an answer to any of them.

@ CheeSee: Your first step should be to talk to CSUF and Mt SAC admissions to figure out which of your classes(from CSUF) transfer over(to Mt SAC), which requirement they fulfill and if it fulfills the UC’s requirement. The honors program requires a 3.5 GPA at Mt. SAC so I’m not sure if you can apply for it without a Mt. SAC transcript? You should talk to admissions at SAC about the honors thing too.

It’s very important to make sure your CSUF classes transfer to the UC system or else it will cause many problems in the end. Good luck!

@ everyone else
So how did everyone’s decisions go? My sis SIR’ed to UCSD.

Alright thank you! Do you guys think its a good idea to stay at CSUF or try the community college way? I do get all my classes at CSUF, but I don’t know if I want to take the risk… The honors program doesn’t give you priority registration? I feel like if I were to take the CC way I would be stuck for a very long time.

I just got into BU for School of Management and I’m waiting for USC Marshall. I got rejected from UCI Business Admin and UCLA Bus/Econ, as well as NYU Stern.
