****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2019 Discussion Thread****

Congrats to everyone who got accepted! I’m a freshman at Northwestern and all I can say is going to NU was probably the best decision of my life. I’m not going to sugarcoat it-It’s extremely difficult and the winters are hell, but the experience is amazing and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
To those who got rejected, my sincerest apologies and I know you’ll end up where it is best for you!

@rednecktiger I have my pin number. I just need the link to get to the decision page. My school email has blocked the url or something.

Okay, I know everyone is going to assume I’m a conceited a**hole for asking this, but does Northwestern not accept overqualified students? Because I’m an objectively better applicant than other people that were accepted from my school, and I got waitlisted; from the looks of this thread, I’m not the only one.

What an unexpected surprise, an acceptance from Northwestern! It’s too bad I will not be attending in the fall, the school seems awesome.

Denied! Time to migrate to the UCB and JHU forums.

Accepted!!!

So happy :’) after being waitlisted by uChi and Pomona (for some reason I thought being wl by Pomona meant not standing a chance at northwestern either…but apparently not! Literally, college admissions are extemely random so never lose faith in yourself!!)

@booapush‌ I kind of feel the same way, so I’m trying to hope that my waitlist to Northwestern means that they just think I’ll be accepted to other great schools (maybe that’s not true, but it stops the tears)

@neurogirl07 Hallelujah, thank you forever and ever. You are a wonderful person and I hope you have a wonderful day.

@booapush I’m wondering the same thing. I’ve heard rumors that they waitlist overqualified students just to increase their yield, because the applicants haven’t shown enough interest and will probably end up somewhere else. I think they do the same to HPME applicants as well, because chances are that they applied only for HPME

@omgeegee after getting waitlisted, that kind of made my day lol =)

@sdhotmama‌ while Northwestern has never even made the tournament haha. Good to know I have company!

Accepted with 2160 SAT and 4.4 GPA (Highest at my school is 4.6)

Rejected. 2340. 3.9 UW. 800s on subject tests. I’m hoping that @booapush is right, but I can’t help but to be nervous for the schools to come.

Accepted!

It was kind of a surreal moment, opening up that status update. I just stared at my screen for a good 30 seconds, soaking up the moment. I’m not the kind to jump around the house and shout, but believe me, this is the happiest I’ve ever been. Sincere thanks to all you folks in the college confidential thread for keeping me sane the past few days as we anxiously awaited decisions.

Good luck to all of you!

@booapush‌

That isn’t true. They aren’t rejecting “overqualified” applicants. Overqualified applicants is the definition of 99% of the people who apply. I scheduled an interview with Northwestern and actually cancelled it and still got in.

If believing that you got rejected because of yield protection makes being waitlisted less painful, then so be it. But it isn’t true. Take the rejection in stride and move on. Everyone can’t get in everywhere. That arrogance and entitlement probably came across in your application and that’s probably why you didn’t get in.

@supersoaker101‌
I know what you mean. I thought I would at least be waitlisted but I was rejected. Don’t worry about the rejection though. Like others have been saying, plenty of people rejected from Northwestern have been accepted to other top colleges. Personally, I’ve gotten a LL from cornell and the CV scholarship from vanderbilt. You are a great applicant and I’m sure you’ll be going to a great school.

@CaliCash‌

You better watch your step. You don’t want to say something that you might regret. I believe that I’m overly qualified, but that doesn’t make me arrogant. Oh well. I got rejected with a 35 ACT and a 3.9 UW GPA as well as communicating with the admissions counselor at NU several times. Perhaps I was rejected for yield protection or perhaps, I was rejected because I didn’t fit in the college. In the end, people have opinions and you have to respect that.

Weren’t you the one that people were calling entitled several pages ago for being upset that admissions officers may not have the time to talk to you? But that’s none of my business…

I got rejected… It was my dream school and I’m feeling completely devastated.
Congrats to those admitted.
