@Coolboy1997 Sorry to hear about the rejections. Your stats should be well within the mean for Northwestern. However RD acceptance rates are projected to be around 3%. So make sure your essays are very good and that they portray your interests as well as it could.

@MasterThinker
umm, I think you mean RD will be around 12-13%, not 3. Are you guys doing the maximum 300 words for the essay or treating it as “approximate.” I reckon its better to be at or below but I’ll have to trim a lot of my essay :/. Also, word count may seem ambiguous in a PDF haha.

@NorthwesternDad Same as scholarship in a separate mail. As in the package or another separate mail again?

@hagzzz 12-13% is the weighted average of both early Decision and RD applicants. Early Decision has a much higher percentage( 33%) As for the maximum, I think they would prefer longer and more detailed ones over shorter ones. Mine was around 700 words and was accepted. There are about 1000 spots left and NU typically get 35000 applicants a year during RD.

Edit: made some mistakes prior to edit, sorry.

@MasterThinker Northwestern accepted 3,440 out of 33,697 applicants (10.2%) of applicants in the regular decision round for the Class of 2018. http://dailynorthwestern.com/2014/03/22/campus/northwestern-acceptance-rate-drops-to-record-low-12-9-percent/

You are also forgetting that since RD is not binding, there will be plenty of those accepted who don’t end up coming to NU. I think NU’s yield rate is about 40-50% so NU will have to at least accept 2,000 applicants if they want their goal class size of ~2,000 students

So RD applicants, you definitely have more than 3% of a chance of getting in! :)

@patrisha727 Yeah, yield is definitely a factor that will increase admit rate. But RD for this year is going to be much harder as Northwestern admitted almost half the class of 2019 through ED. <a href=“Northwestern admits nearly half the Class of 2019 through early decision”>http://dailynorthwestern.com/2014/12/16/campus/northwestern-admits-nearly-half-the-class-of-2019-through-early-decision/

As the news suggest, there should be about 1000 spots left. Given that 35,000 people apply during RD, the percentage accepted should be around 3 percent. Given yield rate of 40-50%, acceptance rate may be around 5-6 percent.

@MasterThinker That seems to make NU’s regular decision rate almost to as low as HYPSM!

@alafae Yes! Northwestern will be very hard to get into during RD round. It should not be looked upon as a safety school for anyone.

Do deferred candidates go into a different bucket? I heard they defer very few candidates and wind up accepting about half. Ad com is waiting to see first marking period grades.

Deferred candidates have expressed an interest that NU is their top choice school early on, so that should (hopeful;y) count for something.

Starting to think that I made a mistake by not applying ED… :-SS

@lawstreet I called admisions asking about deferred and they told me deferred hundreds of students. It the past it looks like they only deferred about 2% but it looks like that has gone up by a lot. As 4.0 student that got deferred I would not think that all deferrals were done because they wanted to see first semester grades. As much as it sucks I’m not counting on things going my way.

Have any RD applicants heard anything about interviews yet? Am I correct in thinking that applicants cannot request an interview?

@pmmywest My S received an interview offer email on the 26th.

Starting supplement now, this should be good…
Did anyone receive a confirmation email from Northwestern notifying them that they had received your application? or does northwestern not do this? Northwestern is the only school that hasn’t sent one to me. Sent in my application toward end of December.
@hagzzz Same here, no email either. Are we supposed to have a portal?
@pmmywest Huh, guess northwestern doesn’t send a confirmation email or it will be later. Northwestern doesn’t have a portal. Decisions will be notified via email.
I emailed them a couple days ago and they said they will email us soon! But yes I applied on the 22nd of December so it has been a long time!
Anyone else here kinda worried since they already filled half the class through ED. The most ED admits ever according to their website.
