@mt72323 usually, yes
Deferred -> Rejected at University of Chicago.
The fact that I wasn’t even offered a waitlist spot at UChicago pretty much clarifies the rest of the results for my reaches that no, my GPA won’t be overcome. My UChicago essays were my best possible, I will find no solace in waiting for NW results…
@chancethisanon I’m in the same exact situation as you. I was deferred then rejected at UC also. I spent more time on my UC essays than any other schools and it really hurts to know that my best wasn’t enough. Hopefully NW treats us both better
@mt72323 how does one know if Northwestern requested tax forms? Did they request them from u?
We got financial requests through the college board site for Northwestern but no requests directly from Northwestern. Am curious to know if this is a positive or not? Figured it was just routine. Also we were unable to send 2015 completed taxes as we need to file an extension this year. Will this delay my daughter’s decision or will they send the decision without FA info?
I got an email a month ago from the college board and IDOC that said northwestern was requesting the forms, but i assume all financial information goes through the college board anyway because of the CSS. im hoping it means theyre figuring out my financial aid which means i got in… or maybe im just reading into it too much
We got the same email about the same time - a week or so before the due date for forms
So are we thinking tomorrow or Friday? Or are we going to dismiss the Tweet entirely?
At this point that it may be better to dismiss the tweet for now.
I would have everyone recall the tweet: While we do not have an exact date (strike I), it’s safe (not certain, or surely, strike II), to say sometime (vague wording, strike III) next week. It’s not at all definitive, and os contradicted by other sources coming out of NU. Would I be pleasantly surprised were it this week? Naturally yes, but I’m switching over to not believing for now.
I’d love it this week, but I think we should all play it safe and assume next week. That way if we do hear before next week it’s a pleasant surprise. The alternative is that every day we all freak out and do the countdown only to hear nothing. That would be excruciating. For all of our sakes, can we agree not to go down that road of collectively anticipating it every day?
Guys, I know it’s really frustrating but we had little reason to think that decisions were going to be released today. I think the tweet is still reliable though — I don’t think they would even give out a tentative time frame unless they were almost positive they would be able to stick to it. Think about it…that would make them look realllyyy bad if they didn’t keep their word.
Let’s wait it out, and if we don’t hear anything by next week, we can be angry then. Hang in there, everyone <3
Do you think I have a chance?
3.4 weighted GPA
SAT-1500/2400
I took 10 AP Classes All in total
I am a black male from the hood, who watched his cousin get shot by gang members, and has had to take care of a mom who had a stroke. I am extremely underprivileged, but I have some very awesome extra curricular activities that most kids from my background don’t have. I am president of my school’s debate team, and I’ve had to be the coach and president because our school couldn’t afford a coach. I am ranked as the best teenage orator in my city, and one of the top 80 orators in the nation. I started a tutoring program for black students at my school, because blacks were performing way lower than other ethnic groups. And because of that program, all of the failing black students who participated in the program ended up passing. I interned for a state senator, and when interning for him I hosted a debate tournament for inner-city youth. In addition, I wrote a bill called AB 672 which gives assistance to prisoners who are wrongfully convicted. The bill that I wrote was actually voted by the California State senate and signed by the state governor, and now the bill I wrote is now in effect. I also have won several awards for Mock Trial, Academic Decathlon, and I am a columnist for a local newspaper. I also have stopped a lot of peers in my neighborhood from joining gangs and getting addicted to drugs. My grades are low, but I’ve done amazing things. Do you think that they’ll look past my low GPA and give me a chance?
Hi, Does Northwestern post the decision on their portal? I do not think that I have access to their portal.
@amoore001 I think at first they might be turned off by your grades/scores but they give everyone a chance and if you made a really strong case for yourself you probably have a good chance. They want to have the best class academically, but they also want to fill the class with interesting people with different perspectives
I need to hang onto the dream a little longer… Getting bad news this week and having to wait til the week of the 28th to hear from most of my other schools would be excrutiating
@amoore001 incredibly interesting story and I’m sure admissions will sympathize with that, but I don’t think that’s enough to get into a top-tier considering your numbers as they’re gonna be worried that you’ll flunk out. A 2000+ SAT would’ve gone a long way imo.
Thank you guys so much, and I understand what you’re saying.
@amoore001 if your essay is a killer, wild horses cannot drag them away
.
@amoore001 Your accomplishments are amazing — even most privileged students couldn’t do some of the things that you did. Honestly, it’s hard to predict whether you’ll get in, just because a lot of it depends on who is reviewing your file and what the individual admissions officers think of you. However, even if you don’t get into Northwestern, you’re going to be great.
