****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2020 Discussion Thread****

I did two teachers, a counselor, my principal and, my boss from an internship, so you’re fine!

@artandscience123 Exactly the same

11 more days, just 11 more days guys.

Do you guys think this year’s ED applicants are more qualified than last years’? The predicted 35% admittance is a lot lower than last year’s 40% something…

@artandscience123 I submitted 6 total: counselor (likely generic), 3 teachers (AP Chem, AP US History, Pre-Calc), and two professors from two summer courses I took (one teaches at Harvard the other at Brandeis) As for the number of recs, recs don’t always follow the “more is better principle”, but if each rec is able to reveal a different trait of you, then more is better. 4 recs should look strong already so don’t worry!

@Suspects the ED rate is probably going to be lower because of the surge in ED applicants (~3000), so I wouldn’t necessarily say this year is necessarily more qualified or vice versa; instead, it’s just gotten more competitive. Good luck to everyone though we’re almost there!

Just to know you guys a bit more, what state are each of you from, and what school and major did you apply for?

State: California
School: McCormick
Major: Computer Science

State:Texas
School: Weinberg
Major: Applied as Philosophy but will probably double major in econ

State: Oregon
School: McCormick
Major: manufacturing and design engineering

@daxyzh Sorry bud but that really hurts your application.

@CaliCash How much do counselor rec letters matter? I know my counselor really likes me and wrote an absolutely amazing letter for me, but I’m not sure if it will be very significant in my application…

I think teacher recs are more important cuz people generally have generic counselor recs. And if decisions come out today, I’m gonna have a breakdown.

@lmaoimdeadaf LOL I feel ya

@Suspects From my understanding, counselor recs are generally very vague because of how many need to be written, so a very good one will show that you stand out as a student.

@CaliCash I’ve had 3 counselors over the course of 4 years at my high school (consistently changing in my school which honestly sucks), and each counselor has to write about 100 letters this year, so it’s a struggle to stand out. :frowning: I’m hoping teacher recs are more important though, as each one of my recommenders wrote about a particular trait of me (diligence, perseverance, creative thought, etc). Guess we’ll find out soon.
