** Official Northwestern Class of 2021 Discussion Thread **

@Dhe123
Hi im ED from India to McCormick!

@indiaaa7
Yes im Indian! Your’e only the second Indian ive come across who’s applied ED
Im in bangalore though (And so is the second applicant)
Best of luck!

@Littlebitanxious nice! im actually from Bangalore originally (I speak Kannada and my parents are super South Indian hahah) but I live in Mumbai. It’s cool to see someone with these similarities

@Dhe123 hahha good luck on all your CAS/EE/TOK/HL/SL worries dude… I have my bio exam monday so im freaking a little bit

The days are moving by so slowly. It’s hard not to doubt yourself more everyday when 19 other students in your grade EDed. Competition is getting harder each yr.

@Littlebitanxious @indiaaa7 I’m indian too haha but I was born in and live in the US.

@indiaaa7 Hahaha, I have my Physics and English exams on Monday! I feel you…

Do you think there are way more ED applicants than last year??

@sonia1216 there were 20% more
3k to 3.7k
it’a going to be much more competitive this year (aka admit rate with plummet down to the 20s)

@jaecha or maybe they’ll just let in more people ED [-O< fingers crossed

@jezreader
haha they’re not going to accept more than 1000 people through ED bc their class is only 2k ppl, which most definitely wont change
1000/3700 is about 26%
this is much different than last year’s rate of ~36%?
more people seem to have found out about NU’s high admit rate for ED and wanted to take advantage of it, but because of this, the rate is prbly going down significantly. bit ironic

@indiaaa7
haha i dont speak a word of kannada xD
my dad was in the army so we shifted a lot and im in bangalore currently (My last posting before college :’)

I am indian as well but born and raised in America but we speak Malayalam at home ahaha @ths17112

@jaecha I don’t know if you’ve seen this already, but check it out: https://dailynorthwestern.com/2016/11/15/campus/early-decision-applications-increase-by-more-than-20-percent-this-year/

based on this article, how do you know that the number “1925” is the expected total freshmen class, or the number of expected ED acceptances? What confuses me is that they usually accept around 4000 people in total, so the number “1925” seems a bit too exact to describe the whole freshmen class. In that case, it seems as if they’re referring to the total number of ED acceptances. That would mean that the ED acceptance rate is very very high, which I’m quite speculative of. The ambiguity is also due to what you said earlier – there are roughly around 2400 enrolled in the freshmen class atm, so 1925 ED acceptances does seem rather high. But at the same time, imagine if they only accept 1000 people: that would mean that they’d also only accept around that many in the regular round. 2000 people in total is 400 less than last year which is preeettyy different.

Last year they sent ED admission offers to 1061 applicants out of about 3000. If they accept the same amount, the admission rate is 28.5%.I hope we all get in (:

@Chicagodreams9 ahh thanks for that info!!

@indiaaa7 1,925 is the expected total freshman class because NU usually has around 2,000 per class

If you’re on a F1 visa in the states you are an international student

Any ED applicants for comp sci? Oh man, I’m nervous…

@takeaderivative Me, I’m soo terrified

after upenn decisions came out today and almost everyone at my school was deferred or rejected, i am terrified for NU results and feel sick to my stomach

@collegegoals22 me too. Lots of Cornell ed students did not show up to school today :((
