I changed my app from Communication to Medill because i heard you can’t be admitted to medill unless you apply directly there and i feel like i shot myself in the foot because medill is so hard to get into. do you think this is true?
Lowest ACT score among accepted ed students on College confidential:
Class of 2018, 28 to Medill
class of 2019, 30 to Weinberg, 29 to Communication, 28 to Medill
class of 2020, 30 to Weinberg
@Zpower99 Yikes your post just made me more nervous. I thought my ACT was pretty good, now I think it’s just average, especially comparing to other Asians.
I don’t think my ACT score is the problem. i got a 35. i think its more about the statistics. i also have no journalism experience compared to many applicants.
@Zpower99 i know someone who got in with a 31, pretty good extra circulars and really good grades if that helps.
@Vlau0707 I feel you, I am Asian too
@lulu7575 the chances of that happening are very slim. my brother (NU class of 2019) got accepted ED and let senioritis hit him right at that moment. he barely even went to school until the principal told him he wouldn’t graduate if he missed any more days and he went from being a straight A student to getting basically all C’s and a few B’s. I definitely would not recommend doing what he did lol but you’ll be absolutely fine with one B
@SimRanWalked I have increased my act score by 10 points, idk if this can help my chances LOL
@Zpower99 Besides your ACT, do you have good grades and unique ECs? Those could definitely boost your chances.

@Zpower99
great job!
which ACT testing day did u increase it? wasn’t the last accepted one for ED in october
@Zpower99 were any of them URMs?
I literally can’t even. I’m freaking out right now. NU is my dream school. It’s also a substantial reach. If I don’t get in, which is likely, I don’t know what I’ll do. Freaking out, if you couldn’t tell by my un alone.
@vlau007 my GPA, classes, and EC are on or above average. I talked about my immigration experience and I did not really learn any English until I came to US. it’s not really a unique point because there are so many international students with really good stats…
@jaecha English +9 Reading +8 Math +8 Science +16 I took them on Feb 2016, and I also took one at March, April, June, and Sep…
Overall NU is a high high reach for me! But I am so happy i tried LOL
@w17mywoes first generation
@nervouswreck2021 me toooo
@Zpower99 I sincerely wish you good luck! I hope we both get in.
@tylerperez12 @SimRanWalked South Florida ED applicant too! I applied to Medill (I’ve dreamed of being a journalist since seventh grade!)
I hope we all get in so we can help each other adjust to what it’s like not having 80+ degree weather everyday, lol
@rockruff @SimRanWalked OMGGG I ALSO APPLIED ED TO MEDILL, do u mind if ask you what high school you go 2?
Did you guys receive any email providing your Portal infos? Or NU does not provide portal to applicants at all?
@tylerperez12 University school wbu
@AlienMax31 NU has no portal. i asked the admissions rep
