Sorry, transfermeow.

If you don’t mind me asking, when did you submit your app?

Sorry, transfermeow.

If you don’t mind me asking, when did you submit your app?

yeah, I’m also curious transfermeow. i go to american university too and i was just able to submit my final transcript this week… were you a rising junior? or did you never submit your final transcript? sorry for all of the questions =

@transfermeow, I’m so sorry!! Vanderbilt is an awesome school, though, and I know you’ll do awesome things there :)

I hope this isn’t an awkward time to post this, but I received an acceptance email a few hours ago to Northwestern’s Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Here are my stats if they’re of any help:
-I’m a rising sophomore.
-GPA: 3.96
-ACT: 32
-ECs: Scenic designer for various on-campus theatre troupes, research assistant in developmental psychology for Harvard post-doc, leadership positions in humanitarian groups, lots of volunteering, psychology/science columnist for intercollegiate scholarly website, and a few other less significant things.
-Miscellaneous: Won national playwriting competition, AP Scholar with Distinction, Nat’l French Honors Society, six awards in high school theatre, Prairie State Scholar

Weaknesses of my application:
-Applied to transfer from a specialized BFA Theatre Design/Technology program at my current institution to a BA Cognitive Science program at NU (very different fields of study, and some other universities I applied to were turned off by this)
-Got a B in literally every semester of math in high school
-Didn’t take an AP science class in high school even though I applied to a science-heavy program
-Didn’t submit NU supplement until the deadline (May 1)

I guess my strengths outweighed my weaknesses this time Best of luck to everyone who has yet to hear back!

Hey congratulations! How did that whole thing work for you? You turned in your app, and then I’m guessing your final transcript once it was available? Did you get a notice once they received your final grades, and how long till your decision? Sort for all the questions!

Thanks! I received a confirmation that my application was received on May 2, and received an email on May 3 that said my application was complete. Strangely enough, my final grades weren’t even available to send in yet when I received the “app complete” email…I submitted a midterm report in April, though, so maybe that sufficed?

hmmm i turned my app in very early. i got the “your application is now complete” email on february 29th lol i turned it in with all my other transfer apps. i still sent in my final grades yesterday because i thought we had to, but i guess so far anything is still open.

@Chris1992, yeah, I really don’t know what their policy is on final grades…I hope you get in (and soon), though, because I don’t know anyone else who has been accepted as a transfer for Fall 2012 and it’s quite lonely!
Would anyone be interested in a Facebook group for NU transfers if I made one?

Hey all,

I’m applying as well. I’m a rising sophomore from Loyola Chicago. Right now i’m SUPER nervous while confident at the same time, ya know? has anyone else heard anything? I’m confident in my extra curriculars and grades and recs, but i feel like my highschool grades and test scores are what will set me back. Anybody have any insight on it?

Are high school grades a big factor as a junior transfer?

After some research, it seems there are different tiers of decisions. The certain acceptance/rejections are sent in the very beginning since they don’t need to see second semester. I’m not sure if there are rounds of decisions or not. It would make sense so each round of acceptance can send in their decisions. that way NU knows how many spaces they have to offer to the next round. I could be super wrong.

Did anyone here apply to the school of communications, it doesn’t seem to be too popular on CC.

I got accepted today to their school of engineering. It’s such a relief after being denied to MIT and Stanford. I guess this must be the early rounds of admittance/rejection or something.

Congrats on your acceptance, compute14! You must be very proud!!

Do you mind telling us if you heard via e-mail/mail and the financial aid you received, if you applied for it? Thanks in advance!

RoboticsFre4k, I heard via email and haven’t heard anything on financial aid yet, at least to my knowledge. Thanks for your congratulations.

I guess I might as well post some stats:
I had ACT superscore of 34,
SAT subject tests in all high 700s,
High school gpa was pretty high,
College gpa was between 3.9-4.0,
Ethnicity was South Asian (Pakistani) and hometown was Chicago area,
I did a lot of research in my field,
I did a lot of sports and activities in high school as well as a few in college,
Major was in biomedical engineering,
etc.
Sorry if I was too vague on anything.

Nervous. Haven’t heard back yet and it might lessen the anxiety if a knowledgeable applicant or parent could guess my admission chances. Here they are:

ACT Composite Score: 33
High school GPA: 4.0
College gpa is 4.0 with fairly rigorous Psychology/Chemistry/Neuroscience courses
Applying as a psychology major
Independent, non-graded thesis in the neuroscience of depression
Should have really good teacher recommendations.
A lot extracurricular activities in both high school and college

BUT

I’m not sure how well I did on my essay! The writing style and syntax was fine, but my responses were ambiguous at times, and I didn’t research very many specific programs within the school, so my essays were not bad, but mediocre. The truth is, I was extremely busy and it was very hard for me to focus my full energy on the essay part of the application.

Please let me know what you honestly think. If you are willing to take the time, I truly appreciate it.

ThisAintMyJob,

you seem to have a reasonable chance. I think I had the exact same credentials you for the most part. The only differences were that I knew that my essays were strong because I had put a lot of thought into them but my recommendations were only above average, at least that’s what my opinion was. Correct me if I am wrong, but the average transfer acceptance rate last year was 8% but it should be slightly higher for you since you are a psychology major. I think they probably reject a lot of communication and journalism majors since that’s what the school is known for. But again, that’s just my opinion and this is all speculation.

@ThisAintMyJob: I sent you a detailed private message, so you should check that out (I was accepted last week to a similar major).

Many thanks to both of you!

Just got into Biomedical Engineering!
My stats:
HS GPA 4.0 ACT:34 SAT II: 800 bio m/e, 800 chem, 800 math ii, 800 physics, 770 USH
5s on 9 APs
College (Freshman at CC) GPA 4.0
Summer + Fall: Orgo I, Calc III, Diff Eq, Lin Alg, Stats, Pysch, Comp sci
Spring: Thermal/Waves/Quantum Physics, Orgo II, English I, Macroecon

Oddly they gave a response before even receiving my final transcript.

Soooo… it appears most of my fellow engineering applicants are receiving decisions. Hope I hear back soon as well. Just curious, did they contact you by email?
