“We are solidly middle income and her package from ND was very close to what was being offered by other institutions.”
If family income is $200k, you are probably full pay at ND. $66k is a lot to pay at that income level and the kid will have many many options that are way cheaper due to merit money.
For income of $75-110k, the average net price at ND is $23k. For $48-75k, average net at ND is $16k.
So it really varies a lot based on exactly what income band you are talking about. The “middle” can means so many different things to different people as to be almost meaningless.
A quick estimate of what ND thinks you can afford yearly is to take your income (including any retirement plan contributions) and multiply it by 45%, then take your assets and multiply them by 5% and add these figures.
For example, if a family earns $100,000 a year, and has savings (not including retirement account assets) and a house worth $500,000; the yearly family contribution will be about $45,000 + $25,000. I.e., they won’t get financial aid at this level. The cost calculator on the ND financial aid site is pretty accurate.
There’s an article on Forbes.com titled “2017 Guide To College Financial Aid” which you may Google, for more details.
Exmark – ND’s website says that for family incomes of $100-120k, the median scholarship was $42,750. Which would bring the net price down to about $24k. Which is consistent with what the DOE scoreboard says.
@RUHTRA999 I don’t necessarily have any advice but I do know that the chances of my daughter attending ND now are slim, so it will free up at least one spot for a waitlist person. :>
My daughter applied to the Notre Dame School of Architecture, but hasn’t heard anything since she got the email saying her application was complete. Anyone been accepted or rejected by the School of Architecture? Should one of us contact the regional counselor?
@yeager5472 my daughter was accepted as an undergraduate architecture major. We are going to the designated Architecture sessions for Admitted Student Days. I think she should have heard from Notre Dame one way or the other.
@kslinky Thanks for the info. We live in KY and should have received something by mail. I think I’ll wait and see what tomorrow’s mail brings and contact someone on Monday if she doesn’t receive a notice tomorrow. I’m dreading next week - still waiting on four decisions.
My D applied to arts and letters
Did not get a decision last Monday
We contacted admissions and they said it would be this Monday. No reason given for the delay
Hi guys. I got the admissions package from Notre Dame. There are two postcards written by the admission office and one of the alumni. Just curious about if everyone who got accepted received personalised notes?
Gateway is worth it. My daughter is a freshman at ND and knows Gateway students that will be admitted to fill spots of the few freshman that do not return.
