Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

@tallfrodo
congrats! the link still doesn’t work for me :frowning: if i don’t get into NYU i’m staying at my school for one more semester and reapplying and then applying to USC, Loyola, Chapman and Pepperdine (Fordham just recently told me they no longer offer my major -_-) do we know if USC is hard to get into as a transfer?

@kmart153

I would say USC and NYU have equivalent transfer rates. USC might be slightly easier. I would check this link out: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1011/Transferring2011.pdf</a> It’s a good start. What is your major?

EDIT: I saw it was communications. That would Annenberg. I would still check the first link out but also read this one:http://annenberg.usc.edu/Prospective/Undergraduate.aspx</a> The Transfer Application guidelines is also helpful.

@mitch
thanks! i’m looking through that link you sent me now :slight_smile: My major would be Public Relations (though I might apply to something easier, like psychology or something just to get in-and even if i was never able to transfer to PR, i loooove psych so it would work out) and i eventually want to double major in french

My bad. I thought it was Communications. Anyways, near the bottom you’ll see all the majors and if it requires any prerequisites. Once you figure that out I would go the department website. You’ll get some more information but focused to the major as opposed to general transfer.

@mitch
well PR is in the communications department so its pretty much the same :slight_smile: yeah i saw their prereq requirements-i think i’ll call SC on monday and talk to them about all of this and find out what classes i need to be in. I’m also going to apply to Loyola Marymount, Chapman and Pepperdine.I think if nothing else i should be able to get into LMU or Chapman (chapman let me in for this semester (fall 2010) with a $20,000 scholarship that i did not apply for- so i think i’d get in again)

i’m planning on applying to nyu transfer from GW. I think there’s a lot of us.

I heard that NYU is sort of stingy and doesn’t give much financial aid, especially to transfers. Is this true?

@kmart
I think USC Annenberg is harder to get into than NYU Steinhardt. But USC Psych should be easie than NYU psych or similar in difficulty.

I wouldn’t worry about the link not working too much. I think they make acceptances throughout next week to fill the spots of those who are accepted but decide not to go.

@rambo
i heard they were pretty stingy. i’ll post my fin aid when i get it

hey mitch have you heard anything yet?

kmart i hope we both get in to mcc major at least its good news that we haven’t heard any steinhardt acceptances yet. :)

@tallfrodo
yeah i’m gonna wait to hear from NYU but if they don’t take me, I’ll just wait another semester. so is USC psych easy to get into? like…with the stats i posted before?

@pinkgrapefruit
adjkfl;ajs; me too! i really hope we both get in :slight_smile: it’d be nice to know someone else going in :D

@kmart
depends on your 1st semester gpa. what gpa do you think you’ll be getting?

@tallfrodo
i’m not 100% sure-it’s either going to be 3 A’s and 2 B+s or 4 A’s and a B+ (we use the plus minus system) so i think that would equal around a 3.6/3.7?

@pinkgrapefruit

I’m actually not even applying this year. I am going to apply to Stern next year. I had good HS grades but wanted to have the best application possible for admission. Plus, they require various prerequisites so I wanted to have those completed as well.

I guess you can say I had a head start. I started posting in the Transfer section sometime around April. I’m really glad I did though because it allowed me to plan and I think that is one of the most important things during the transfer process.

I’m just on the boards trying to gather some information for next year and for future transfers. I know most of the questions asked here will be asked next year so hopefully I’ll be able to answer them already having the knowledge of this years thread.

@tallfrodo
congrats! transfers arent allowed to apply for housing unless told to do so. You should receive an email telling you to log on to the NYU home page. There you will go to the NYU Life tab and then there will be a button/link that says “Student Housing and Meal Plan Forms.” Since I was accepted back during the second week of November I was able to submit my housing form really early.

@kmart
I think you should be able to get into nyu or usc next semesterr. you’ll prolly get into both with a 3.7.

@roymond
What housing options do transfer students have?? I really want grammercy or palladium :P

@tallfrodo
i’m hoping i get a 3.7 i don’t really know how the conversion works =</p>

Hey, just wondering, how competitive is NYU-Stern. I’m thinking about applying, and just wanted to know a little.

@RamboRambo

There is no statistics and figures for NYU transfers; however, it has been noted that Stern tends to be one of the most selective schools in NYU. I’m not going to tell you, “You need a 4.0, great LORS, and ECs”, to be accepted because truth is, no one knows. According to their Freshman Stern guidebook the average GPA for incoming Freshman is a 3.76. I would assume for transfers it would hover around that area, if not higher.

I would first take a look at [Stern Special Program Requirements](<a href=“How to Apply”>How to Apply) to see their requirements.

@Mitch
Thanks for the heads up. Yeah I know there isn’t a specific figure as to how many they accept, but I’m really considering applying though. And as far as the pre reqs go, I should have those done by spring.

@tallfrodo
i was able to set my preferences among: carlyle court, coral towers, lafayette street, greenwich hotel, and 2nd street. That was the order I put mine in!
