Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

Hey, first time poster here. I just tried to get my NETid and I was able too. I’ve been trying for the pass month and it never let me. It tells me I have an NYU email as well. Does this mean I got in? I haven’t received any emails or letters. Thanks!

@LaMeth
congrats! you got in! Mine worked on November 16th and then received my NYU package on the 19th so I think you should expect something in the mail soon!

yesss! just tried now (after trying for a month) and i logged in :D

Congrats alian and meth!! :slight_smile:
9 more days of waiting for me…

And kmart i wouldnt stress too much. They def take ur freshman status into consideration. if they didnt consider it they prolly would take mostly juniors and older students - which they dont.

@tallfrodo
yea that’s true i suppose-i’m so nervous. she said my app was currently under review…it’s gotta be some sort of good sign that they haven’t straight up rejected me though, right?
we’ll see :slight_smile: why 9 days?

@kmart
it kinda seems like your app is on hold also? b/c my the admissions processor said my app was still under review but she connected me to Gallatin to check what was up and thats how i found out my app was on hold.

the admissions person said they get the responses back from the acceptees in 10 days and then they can determine how many spots are left to give out.

i’m hoping for either the acceptees get into other ‘better’ schools or there’s not many apps they held.

i really need my decision by the 6th though :(

@tallfrodo
ooohh well that would make sense (my app being on hold) and honestly, i’m down with that. i just need everyone else to…disappear so i can be accepted. i dunno-i talked directly to a Steinhardt Admissions officer who said it was “under review currently and i could call back next week” so we’ll see.

are you for sure not going to Fordham? Where do you think you’ll go? Why do you need a decision by the 6th?

Thanks for the stats thread!

I called NYU today, they told me that my “application is considered complete” and they will be “sending a decision in a couple of days.” They also told me something similar last week after they made some changed to my file. I know I am wasting my time decoding, but I am getting very anxious. Has anyone received a denial letter?

Oh and how funny, I was also accepted to Fordham, along with a few others on this thread!

Idk if this is any help but I just got an email saying I can apply for housing but I haven’t received the official acceptance package in the mail yet. The deadline to apply for on-campus housing is the 10th so everyone should be receiving their decisions really soon.

@alian3

Congrats on your acceptance, well not officially, yet =D. I was wondering how the transfer housing worked. Do generally all upperclassman still live in campus housing or do they move out? This was a question I was planning on asking tomorrow. Gonna go for the info and campus tour.

@Mitch
Thanks! =D Most juniors and seniors try and live off-campus but I think you can still apply for housing. Housing is guaranteed (and I think maybe mandatory) for freshmen and sophomores. Let me know what you hear from the tour though!

Who should I get recommendation letters from?

I got one from my management professor who is also pretty high up in the hierarchy in the business school. She has a really good impression of me, and she said she’ll write a stellar recommendation.

I thought I’ll get the second one from my pre calc professor, because since calculus is the only requirement I’m not filling, I could help that black mark on my app by getting a math professor to say that I’m an excellent student,etc. Well she should say that cos i have 98 in the class so far. =D

Lastly, do we have to send in the recommendations ourselves or do we give the professor an envelope and ask them to mail it? Do we have a choice between using the instructor evaluation form, or a standard LOR?

One more thing - when preparing my application, do I have to send in all my materials in one package, or can they be sent individually? For example, in one large folder do I include my transcripts, letters of recommendation and instructor/faculty evaluation, or can they be sent in separately?

I’m confused about how commonapp works, because I only applied to the University of Miami last year and they had their own application.

@giantmidget
one caution about math/science teachers especially if english is their second language make sure they have good english skills. but if ur calc prof can write a good rec i say its a good idea. usually you give the prof an envelope to mail.
you usually send your app via internet - common app / transcripts etc.
common app you basically have a main why transfer essay and stats that get sent out to all colleges and if a college requires anything additional, you fill out their supplment which is usually another essay.

i got accepted todayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :)!

WHAT! Tallfrodo congrats congrats!! Yay!
Man I still haven’t heard anything.

Thanks :)

Does anyone how to apply for housing??

tallFrodo, how did you find out?

I am new to the thread but was in the same boat as you, sort of just on hold for ages. I was told I got in today but I don’t have any concrete “YOU’RE ACCEPTED” papers. I think in that they’ll give us more information on housing.

@tallfrodo
fdjafjdfkj;dfjad;jfk;dasjkfs congrats dude! I’m so stoked for you! How’d you find out?!?!

the linked work and then i called to confirm!
haha if i get in you can get in kmart ;)

Congrats @tallFrodo!! Don’t forget to post your stats on the official thread when your acceptance package comes.

Yesterday, I went to the information and campus tour. It was really good. The information session was helpful and informative but there is nothing you cannot find online. I was surprised when the counselor even mentioned anything about transfer admissions. Usually these sessions consists of all Freshman applicants so they skip transfer students. I thought it was considerate to ask. I even had the chance to ask her questions one on one. Overall, they were really helpful.

The highlight of the tour had to be when the group was touring Bobst library and the president, John Sexton, came out of nowhere and started talking to the group. It was a pleasant surprise. You could just see he was a part of the university, as he nearly had something to say to every student. I just thought it was pretty cool. Not every day that happens.
