Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

i think this week and next week will be the last weeks to hear good news but I’m not 100% sure on that. I really need to know soon, either way, so I can accept or reject my offer at another school =

just got off the phone with nyu. most decisions will be sent in two days.
some people’s files are held and if they fill the spots of people who were accepted and not going.
those decisions will be made in 10 days or so.

Disclaimer: this info is for gallatin but i think other schols have similar processes.

@kmart
Hey u can check ur fin aid online. Google my fordham. i dont think im going lol.

ohhh really?! eek. does that link work for you, tallfrodo?

Oh cool! I am definitely going if NYU doesn’t take me…but fingers crossed

@tallfrodo yeah i didnt get much from Fordham but I think I’ll go there still-that NYU link doesn’t work for me (i broke down and tried it)–does it work for you?

@tallfrodo
do you happen to know if rejections will be sent at the same time as acceptances? or are they going to be sent after the acceptances

@kmart
the link doesnt work for me but i know my application is on hold. They said my app was weaker than the ones that were accepted but i guess not weak enough to be a reject lol.
Fordham only gave me 7000 for the semester… how much did u get??

@pink
rejections are sent later. they made acceptances on a rolling basis and i think they made the bulk of it already. The rest of the acceptances and rejections will be sent out tomorrow minus the apps on hold.

@tallFrodo
when did you send your app in? I feel like they haven’t made the bulk of their acceptances yet, only ones that were sent in relatively early.

the admissions counselor told me I should be hearing by the end of this week.
I hope that means I will be hearing good news.

@tallfrodo, they told you over the phone that your app was weak? I didn’t know that they gave that kind of information out.

Probably a ridiculous question, but I’ll ask it anyway… Does New York University offer transfer scholarships?

I am looking at several schools in the New York City area because of the seemingly endless internship opportunities. Right now, I’m forced to take online classes at my university because I am doing an internship out-of-state with the Discovery Channel. They offered me another internship position at their New York City offices, but I simply don’t have the cash to relocate again. So, I’m thinking about transferring for means of being closer to the action… I think it makes sense? Not to mention, the city is full of other amazing companies like NBC, Viacom and Sesame Workshop!

@tallfrodo
I got $3000 from them haha oh well-I wanna be in NYC so it’ll do! How’d you find that out-that your app was on hold? Like what did you say to whoever you called?? What were your stats again? fkladsf;asd i’m nervous i know my app was weak haha

@pink
did you call the general admissions assistant or the specific school you’re applying to?

@alian
i sent mine in mid october. it was complete late october. the ‘bulk’ part was just a conjecture, because they said they will send out the remaining decisions on 12/1… maybe they made a small portion so far and they will send the bulk tomorrow or something. thats in line with the info pinkgrapefruit got i guess, b/c if they are sent out tomorrow he should hear by the end of the week or early next week.

@pink
yea i got connected to an admissions officer. i told them my app was complete in late october…i need a decision…has it been made yet? thats the gist of it basically. he told me that while my app was competitive, it was slightly weaker than the acceptance pool, so basically i’m put on a makeshift waiting list.

@airwick
don’t think they offer merit schollys and their fin aid isn’t that great from what i hear. usually the best transfer reasons are academic, but your reason sounds legit.

@kmart
i got connected to NYU student rep -> admissions processor -> admissions officer.

heres my embarassing stats

@top 25 uni
1st sem: 3.4 (15 units)

2nd sem: 1.5 (12 units)

@community college
3rd sem: 2.9 (12 units)
4th sem: 4.0 (19 units)
summer: 3.7 (10 units)
mid-term report: 3.9 (16 units)

was working full time (50 hrs a week) 2nd and 3rd semester b/c of financial reasons.

h.s. gpa: 3.8
sat: 2240
sat2: 800/730/700/700

good extracurrics (intern/work/club/leadership)
average rec
very strong essays.

@tallfrodo
those are not bad stats! I told you mine right? My stats are embarrassing…a 3.49 for a high school GPA? ugh. i think im gonna try to call them in the morning like you did and see if I can get an answer-i’m super nervous thoughhhh

@alian
I called the nyu admissions office number and then got transferred to an admissions counselor. I wish I could find the specific school, but I can’t find their information on the website and I think they don’t really deal with admissions per se, the admissions office is the one that deals with apps directly.

@tallfrodo
I agree with kmart! I don’t think your stats are that bad either! I am pretty worried because I think my college gpa might be similar to yours and our high school stats seem pretty similar too

haha thanks guys :stuck_out_tongue: i think the couple semesters i worked killed my gpa tho. maybe we’re all on hold lol i seriously hope we all get in though… the waits been so exhausting in so many ways haha

@tallfrodo
well the good news is, NYU has not rejected me thus far-I called and they said my app was still currently under review.

HOWEVER. she then told me that i am not in competition with just other second semester freshmen entering the media, culture, communications major, but rather everyone entering the MCC major. How am i supposed to compete with people who have been in college longer and therefore have more ECs and stuff like that?! Do you think they’ll take into consideration that i am still a freshman? im worried about this

@kmart
dont worry its all relative, if they know youre a more promising students its better that youre taking your classes with them and not a whole year elsewhere if you know what i mean.

@tallfrodo
hope things work out for you man, lets just hope nyu is too expensive for the other people who got accepted so there is an open spot for you!

on that note, just got a call that they received my deposit and will contact me shortly regarding housing and class registration! yay!

@roymond
congrats! I’m jeeealous haha. I hope I get in. I hoep when they see that I go to UT (under the same major essentially that i am applying to at NYU) and they see that I have all A’s and that I did IB diploma in high school that they’ll let me in. I’m just worried because i dont have some of the stats or the ECs as say a sophomore or a junior–those that have had time to establish themselves and get good internships etc, ya know what I mean? and i dont know if my essays were too super impressive :\ i keep obsessively re-reading them haha. Oh well! Here’s hoping :)

Anyone care to help me here?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1040862-when-tisch-film-television-portfolio-stuff-due-transfer-fall-2011-student.html

@kmart
it’s like what roymond said. They won’t hold it against you that someone did an internship because they have a year on you or anything like that. If your application is strong you shouldn’t worry about only being a freshman.

@tallfrodo
good luck! you have strong hs stats and I think as long as your overall application conveyed that you’re qualified and passionate about getting in, you have a good chance =]

this wait is terrible haha, good luck to everyone!
