@arnrg
thats usually the case for most colleges. Bt some acceptances come out late as well

@roymond

Congrats man.

no problem mitch.

So for the people that haven’t heard anything yet, when did you send in your apps?

Called admissions. I was worried b/c my app was complete late oct/early nov and i havent received anything. They said they started looking at apps mid nov so they only had a week so far to review applications so i shouldnt be too worried. Most decisions will be made within 2 weeks provided everything is in.

Hope this helps

Hey everyone! I am also stalking this thread and am anxiously waiting for a decision letter from NYU for the Spring 2011 semester. I have also applied to other universities, but NYU is definitely one of my top choices.
If you don’t mind me asking, for those accepted who haven’t already said so, what are your stats?

Thank you!
Good luck everyone

I made a stats thread. After looking through last year’s thread it was too cluttered with stats. For those who have received a decision make sure to post the decision. It will assist current and future transfers. The link is below.

Hi, I’ve been stalking this thread for a while and I figured I’d stop in and announce my acceptance and drop my stats for everyone.

Letter was postmarked November 18th, but I just received it today (I live in Florida). Also, for those interested my University ID did work before I received my packet. I still haven’t receive my financial aid packet. The counselor said it would be in by early next week.

My stats are as follows:

Accepted - CAS/Philosophy

College transferring from: University of North Florida
Entering as: Junior
GPA: 3.89
ACT: 29
Units completed: 48
Units in progress: 12
Pre-reqs completed: All
ECs/ Awards listed on app: President of a mentoring program in high school, two study abroad trips in college (associated with honors courses), assorted honors societies in high school, treasurer of an environmental club in college, university honors, dean’s list, president’s honor roll, DAR Good Citizen Award
Job/Work Experience: 10 hours a week at Alternatives for the Disabled doing clerical work
Letters of Recommendation: One letter from a professor I traveled to Ecuador with, not sure how it panned out.

Hope this helps!

Congrats on your acceptance and welcome to the thread. If you don’t mind, try posting your stats in the official stats thread. The link is below.

Okay so just a random speculation: On my letter it says that I need to send in my deposit within 2 weeks of November 18th which means December 2nd. I am assuming that the reason why NYU says they will make decisions in the beginning of december is because they have already accepted a number of students and are waiting to see how many will actually go. They will then make the rest of the decisions after December 2nd to fill in any unattended spots. This is just a speculation though because it says that my acceptance is only valid for that two week period.

Does the major you choose have an impact on your chances? I’m applying to Stern, and I suppose almost everyone at Stern must be majoring in finance? I, on the other hand, am not interested in finance, but International Business. Would that increase my chances?

@roymond

Thanks for posting and getting the formatting right.

@giantmidget

Stern is definitely more competitive than CAS. With that being said though, not every applicant applies under a Finance major. There are 9 different majors in Stern including Finance. International Business is a co major only, therefore you would not be able to only major in International Business. You would have to select another major to pair it up with.

[Stern School of Business](http://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/academic-programs/stern-school-of-business.html)

@MitchAPalooza

Let’s suppose that there are two students, with the exact same stats, LOR’s, etc. and both apply to Stern, with there being only one spot available. One is a finance major and the other let’s say, Marketing, which one would have a greater chance of being accepted?

@mitchapalooza
no prob!

@giantmidget
that’s a silly question

@giantmidget

To be honest, I do not know. It would most likely come down to the intangibles which we of course cannot judge. I think I get your point though. I do not believe there are quotas that Stern fills. Meaning that because they already accepted 10 students into Finance, and only 9 into Marketing, they must accept another Marketing student versus a Finance student to balance out the majors.

Might Finance have more applicants than Marketing or Actuarial Science? Possibly, but to reiterate my argument, I do not believe they have quotas. What most likely occurs is applicants from each major get paired into groups. All Economics majors into one group. All Marketing majors into another group, and etc. Then from there they are evaluated compared to their perspective peers from their selected major as opposed to other majors in Stern. As cliche as it sounds, the best applicants get in.

@roymond
i agree with your speculation. good point

anyone else heard back yet?

When do transfer students begin to register for classes?

Do I need to send in SAT scores? I’ll have done 30 credits by the time I transfer from University of Miami, and I’d prefer not to send them in because they were pretty low the first time around. 1850.

This is what the website says

“If you have been enrolled in a college or university for at least one year of full-time study, you are exempt from having to submit the SAT or ACT.”

Just making sure. =)

do you guys think that this week will be the last week to hear good news from nyu?

@giantmidget

Wow. I’ve always read that page but until now I just read that section. I thought NYU always required SAT/ACT scores for applicants, especially for Stern.

@pinkgrapefruit

I would assume. Didn’t they say around early December? Plus it has been quite on the threads lately, hopefully it picks up.
